Whilst the interior of the r8 is great, it's also similar to other cars in the Audi range, the alcantara option really elevates the interior to the level of luxury and styling that is befitting of the general price and performance of the car.

The headliner covers a huge expanse. I looked at plain headliner cars and saw a big ugly area plastic looking plainness. The alcantara makes the roof area seem smaller, and has a more exotic look. Extended leather and alcantara headliner are a must in my book.

I definitely appreciate all the responses. I'm so conflicted. It just looks and feels so luxurious and rich. I better make a decision soon...

given that and your doubt, I say go for it - it's a tiny percentage of the cost of the car and it's worth it to avoid the risk of you feeling you missed out somehow.

Retrofitted the Alcantara in my first R8 and ordered standard with extended leather in my second R8. I am planning more components in Alcantara to extend the feeling around the door entry. Need to find the appropriate upholsterer in Australia.
    Go for it.

It's worth it. As is extended leather.

Crap. I probably shouldn't have started this thread. I just contacted the dealership to see if I can add both the headliner and the extended leather. I guess you only live once.

Good move! I think you will be much happier! Obviously, you can't really go wrong with an R8, but the small differences do stand out.

IMO, extended leather is necessary, and the alcantara is a wonderful finishing touch if the extra cost it not a worry. It's something I wish I had in mine.

Any thoughts on door sills? I originally placed an order for the illuminated door sills. I thought it would look cool and would be more durable than the cf door sills.
