than its going to be a complete piece of ****.

The Gallardo was a piece of ****. It was the worst car I have ever owned and I’ve owned some nice cars. I put 3 CLUTCHES in mine before 6,000 miles and than I sold the sucker. I know the guy who bought has since put another clutch in it, possibly more. The car is too small to race inside, you need to bolt the seat to the floor an and take the roof lining out. Putting a cage in is hell. It’s a really nice looking, poorly designed car. It’s great if you want to pose around and be a complete wanker, which I was for a while. Save your money and don’t buy Italian.

The R8 will be soooo far removed from the Gallardo ... the that fact it shares some chassis similarities with the Gallardo, will soon be forgotten.

It's easy to get in and out of ... there is more than enough room inside for a sports car ... the build quality will no doubt be superb ... after all Audi are building it ... and it should be much more reliable and less problematic than the Gallardo.

imho ... people draw too much on the fact that Audi and Lamborghini are directly related ... Lamborghini only make supercars ... they actually made the first supercar when they built the Miura 40 years ago ... Audi have never built a supercar and even with the R8 they are not even aiming at the supercar bracket ... the sooner people start thinking of the R8 as being in the 911 bracket (non turbo'd obviously) the better ... even maybe in the Vantage bracket (although it'll beat it on pretty much any 'specification' figures) ... it'll even beat the DB9 on some points ... although it'll be significantly cheaper than either Aston ... anyway that's beside the point ... I just hope the Gallardo will stop being used as a measuring stick.

Let's hope people start to lose this fascination with comparing the R8 to a Gallardo ... when they aren't even in the same category.

    Just my 2p worth

I don't see much difference in both cars other than the engine sizes. Even the wheel sizes and car lengths are the same and the engine is mounted the same.

I'd like to see a list of features that makes the car so different other than it's price and it's made by Germans and it's easier to get out of.

The Gallardo is a supercar that is meant to be taken out of the garage on a regular day to day basis the same as the R8 seems to be.
I'll gurantee you that people are going to be mistaking it for a lamborghini on the roads.

The Gallardo ... like all Lambos since the Miura ... is a supercar ... the R8 is not ... should I go on ... ??

imho ... I can rest my case there ... but you did want a list ... and one item does not make a list ... so ... point number two follows ...

Lambos ... which the Gallardo is one of ... are not reknowned for being as reliable as ... shall we say ... an Audi ... ??

If you want I'll give you a couple of performance figures that show that make it somewhat different ... which will be points three and four on my little list for you ...

    R8 0-62mph = 4.6secs ... 2006 Gallardo 0-60mph = 4.0secs

    R8 top spead = 187mph ... 2006 Gallardo top speed = 196mph

Shaving tenths of a second off a cars 0-62mph time is not easy when you're getting down towards the four second mark ... and increasing the top speed by each mile per hour when you're approaching 200mph is also hard to do. This all means a car that is over half a second quicker to 62mph and almost 10mph faster at the top end ... well, one can be called a supercar ... the other ... cannot ... need I go on ...

Mmmm ... let me think ... who make the R8 ... ah that's it ... Audi.
Now ... what to Audi call the R8 ... ah, that’s it ... they call it a ... sportscar.

The fact is it will not even fall into the same sector in the market that a Gallardo resides in ... once more people draw too much on the fact Audi own Lamborghini and the chassis has similarities with that in the Gallardo.

The problem that follows is people turn into sheep and because they've seen someone call the R8 a supercar they all end up doing sheep impressions and follow along like good little sheep and do the same.

Shame more people can't make their own mind up and call the R8 what it is ... rather than follow the lead of some hyped up statement has mistakenly mislabelled the R8 ... unfortunately this will probably stick because too many people can't make up their own minds and follow the example of others.

the xj220 if my memory is right was suppossed to be a v12 with 4wd when it was first showed at the nec in 1986? and do 220mph

when it was released it had a v6 engine(i think it was an old rover unit)? 2wd and the cabin was made from old ford parts and only do 214mph? with the cat removed and was launched in the middle of the recession

the R8 is so close to the lemans concept of 2003 you cannot even compare them

the only thing which differs is the ferrari style knob on the steering wheel (but i may be wrong )
