R8 Pure Sport Edition Coming back for 2012 in the UAE

Hello All,

I have been reading this forum for sometime and finally have something to contribute.

I stopped into the local Audi dealer in Dubai this weekend on a whim, and the friendly salesperson, I have known for some years, let me know that in a couple of weeks time they would be opening up orders for a rehash of the Pure Sport Model that they released to market last year:

Final prices/specs would be available early March but they expected a price of $128k (470k aed) for a V10 Coupe.

As I was just about to place an order for a 991 Carrera S this certainly throws a spanner in the works. Regardless of facelift later this year or new model in 2014 it is a fantastic price.

Any thoughts? I am itching to trade in my 997.2 for something else at the moment this R8, 991 and a 2012 GT-R are all on the short list.

I looked at the PDF you posted, and I only see cosmetic aspects to this "pure sport" package... Is there anything actually performance oriented in it?

This isn't really an enhanced R8. It is basically an r8 with a certain list of options. The idea behind it is that they get orders from all of the gulf with these specific options only and that way it is cheaper for them to run a production line of 50 identical cars (the only options u have is the interior color one of 3 and body color one of two) and offer the savings to the gulf resellers who in turn offer that discount to the customer. It may also mean a low orders period is coming up and to keep the production line going they can start building these cars to a specific spec and to do so give an incentive of a discount, rather than paying people who are not building cars to the maximum (maximising use of the production line). This is what I think is the case anyhow, might be wrong.

Pretty much exactly what the dealer said. I also think it is a little bit of a response to Porsche locally on release of the 991. Good for us buyers though!

Or as a pill to ease the symptoms of a sickness some people in the Gulf suffer from, the deep and strong desire to be "different" and "stand out", so they want a "unique" car.

Maybe one of the psychologists on this board can give this sickness a name

May I recommend a camel to yourself. They got my ancestors to school to learn how to read. That might be of help to you some day more than an R8 it seems ;-)

While I did deserve what you said about me getting a camel (and I'd love to have one), I think, and this is just my own uneducated opinion, that this special production line of cars, was specifically designed for customers in the Gulf for their desire to stand out.

You also seem to agree with me:

I dont know if this is true or not true however i wouldnt get sensitive about the matter mate. All it is is marketing. They (audi) know that people in that region dive for things with labels like "limited" "exclusive" etc etc even if these features are small things that people in europe and the states wouldnt even be interested in most likely. Truth be told the real "limited" CAR rather than just silly options is available for the whole world to enjoy if wanted and that is the GT :-).

People diving for things with labels like "limited" or "exclusive" says to me they are looking to stand out, and that's all I said. You seem to agree completely.

It's a special "edition", which can hardly even be called an edition as it's just exactly the same car with just a few components with different colors and no other twists. I lean more towards the desire of Audi and their resellers to sell a few more cars as demand is drying up (is it?) rather than it having anything to do with any real cost savings or discounts.

Those discounts, and other significant discounts we've been hearing about on the forum lately, were probably coming now anyway, and the marketing departments decided to put an "exclusive" or "special edition" twist on it, as part of their strategy to hopefully sell a few more.

Seeing in "ultimate factories" how the R8s are built, I kind of doubt it costs significantly less to do a run of this sort vs a fully customized run. It shouldn't save much time or effort.

We probably won't ever know, but we should take everything a sales person says with a grain of salt.

What's up bud? I definitely agree with you regarding the point you were making. I might even fit into that category by painting my roof black and buying a CF spoiler, mirrors and GT tail lights as now my car stands out as per say. Though the way I presented the point and you did are miles apart. I apologies if I offended too, but I hope u didn't take it that way. I was just replying with a cheeky comment in response to another cheeky one :-) No offense was truly intended. We are all different in some way or another based on our societies and surroundings and what we grew up to as normal, but that's what makes the world interesting :-) . Now let's get into our R8's and go explore something/someone new :-)
