Looking at ordering a new R8 - black or silver?

    Hello:

I am looking to take the plunge and order a new R8.

I keep going back and forth between a black and silver exterior - with the color matched side blades (this is not an "option" as I like the colored matched blades).

All of my other cars are black, so I would like to keep the R8 black as well, as a detailed black car is impossible to beat - in my opinion.

However, this car is the silver looks very nice...

    Any input?

If you had to pick between the black and silver, which would you pick?

    Thanks!

I have just bought a black V8 (carbon blades) which I love and a friend has a silver v10 with silver blades (not colour matched just the normal silver blades) which looks awesome as well. I would vote black as you're right, it's difficult to beat when clean, the trouble is it only takes 8 minutes to get dirty again! I sold a black 911 to buy the R8 and I vowed I would never get another black car but now I have it I wouldn't change it!!

This is obviously a very personal decision. I went through the same thing you did with Phantom, Ibis, & Ice... I've had almost all of my performance cars in Black, so the whole cleaning issue is really a non-issue for me. I have just as much fun caring for the cars, as I do driving them.
Thanks to the many quick detail and dry wash products out there, and our new best friend "the micro-fiber" towel, its takes 7 min to wipe down a black car after driving it. IMO: Phantom Black is the best color on this R8! No other color captures SEXY-AGGRESSIVENESS-CLASSY in one then BLACK!
Best of luck with your decision. Go what you always go back to... for me, its always been BLACK.

Pologuy, you can see what a color-matched side blade looks like, on my Oak Green metallic (an Audi Exclusive color) in the Gallery. I happen to be one of those guys who would never buy a black car. It's too difficult to clean, shows all the dirt quickly, the smallest scratches are immediately, but MOST importantly, it doesn't show the true body shape. I feel that to appreciate a car's true design and shape, the color should be some sort of medium, like silver, light blue or green etc. With black, and to some extent, white, you just "see" a blob of black, or white, and miss the subtle shapes of the car. Apologies in advance to all those who like those colors!

My past few cars were black but my R8 is Silver with CF blades. Would not have thought I would have bought a Silver car but I did not want to wait with ordering and found a Silver fairly local set up the way I wanted. Am loving it, car stays clean looking for weeks and at almost 3 years old and 18k miles the paint looks better than a brand new black car. Seems black cars come right from the factory with swirls

After 2 ibis whites..I love my black r8.

I love the richness and depth of the color.

All R8,s have a exotic profile but the black is just down right serious and mean.

I was fortunate to sit in my R8 in the Audi Factory just after it had been built and had been finalized, polished and clean to go on the ship.

It had not one swirl or mark.

When it arrived in OZ I instructed the dealer to put no buffers or power tools near the paint to prepare for delivery as this is where swirls occur on new cars.

    It was perfect!

Re: Looking at ordering a new R8 - black or silver?

Hey, thanks to everyone for your input!

I really am leaning toward the black - as I said, a property detailed black car is hard to beat...

If you get a good detail guy, the car looks deep, wet, glossy, and just downright beautiful...

You just can't get that depth in any other color I have found...

Now if they would offer the bordeaux color like Maserati does... oh my! lol
