Test drove the McLaren MP4-12C...it's like a REALLY fast R8!

While the 458, McLaren, etc. are more technologically advanced than the R8, I don't consider them superior cars (although I have not spent any meaningful time in a McLaren) - just different. I know I'm in the minority, but I'd take the R8 over the 458.

I like the 12C and will no doubt be considering it when the next gen R8 comes out. They are really getting hammered depreciation wise though. You can find them like 40-50K+ off MSRP with like a thousand or so miles. Heck of a car for the money, especially used, but you'd be crazy to buy one new unless you have money to burn.

Follow-up for those interested... Just got my 12C back from the dealer, with the power update. Amazing!!! 25hp, downshift blip, super crisp shifts, even the doors close easily. Plus, navigation and radio all sorted and working well. The car was great... Now it's extraordinary!!! Very pleased.

That's awesome. I'm glad Ron Dennis allowed for that (the rev-matching downshifts) on this update. It seemed so odd that it didn't do that when I test drove it.
