What up MotherTrucker? I also live in ATL (alpharetta) and would LOVE to see/hear your R8 with that exhaust. I just ordered my R8 today, expected to be delivered in Dec/Jan. I see you have a NSX I use to have one of those also. One of my favorite cars. Lets hook up! -- Dan
PS - I have a high def video camera which I can take some shots for you and upload them here for everyone.

    Re: Exhaust Comparison

OK you guys, I did the video. I started it up and blipped the throttle a few times. It didn't do the long loud cold startup routine, apparently it was too warm there in Florida. Then I took it into a parking lot, and tried to demonstrate the switching from loud to quiet modes. And finally, I took it out on the track to get some in-car noises and show what a incredible car the R8 is when really run on a racetrack. The windows had to be open, so when I got going fast, the wind caused the microphone to fill with wind noise and mute. So I tried to splice in a few bystander shots my daughter took (later, when it was raining) so you could hear what it really sounds like.

Here's the link to the video on YouTube:

YouTube videos are not the greatest quality. Here's a link to a Higher Res version with better sound and image. It's 89 megs in size, you should download it first (in I.E, right-click and select Save Target As) and then view it afterwards.

It's a kind of weird video, but I think it does the job of presenting the PPI exhaust.

    enjoy -

P.S. Check out that dude in his white Honda Civic racecar - unbelievably fast!

Thanks for the Video MT~ ! I've noticed the 09's have white information display instead of red. I wonder if the V10 ones will get the LCD display.

One other point.... I loved how you ate up the Porsches... all types of Porsches. Well done in a very controlled & ballsey way. I can't drive my R8 like you can drive yours, but I wish I could.

    Cheers!

You're very welcome, all. Thank you for the compliments.

This weekend - VIR. I hope to NOT create one of those "R8 hits the wall at VIR" videos...

    Question Re: Exhaust Comparison

MT, I enjoyed your smooth driving in the video. I'm finding it a little difficult to heel-toe the car due to the relative heights of the pedals. I wondered if you could share your thoughts on the technique and or any modifications you made that make it work for you.

    Re: Exhaust Comparison

    Desperado -

Yes, heel and toe is not as easy in the R8 as in other cars I've driven. I don't have a problem with the height of the brake pedal relative to the gas pedal. For me the problem is the distance between them. I'm pretty small, and wear driving shoes when on the track. Driving shoes have very thin soles, which is great for control and feel, but the add almost nothing to the width of your feet, so it makes it difficult to reach the gas pedal. But they are a major help in performance driving.

I have not yet modified the pedals to help. If I did, what I would like to do is add another inch of width to the left edge of the gas pedal, at the top third of the pedal. I may cut a piece of aluminum and do that.

Meawhile, what I do is move my right foot placement on the brake pedal as far right as possible while still getting a firm plant. So just the ball of my foot presses the brake pedal, and my foot is pointed slightly to the left and my ankle is also bent to the left a bit so that the right edge of my foot contacts the left edge of the gas pedal. Then I kind of move my right knee to the right to actually press the accelerator pedal while braking to perform the heel-toe.

Hope that explains it. Something else interesting about "heel and toe" - when cars were first built they had a small gas pedal in the center, the clutch pedal on the left , and the brake pedal on the right. So Heel and Toe was heel on the gas pedal and toe on the brake. I think that's much more ergonomically correct for our feet. Not sure why they moved it to where it is now, probably some safety reason. But the name stuck.
