Amazing... Filters

Put the Capristo on and it sounds amazing. Gained about 15 hp and 19 ft/lb torque. Also we put the k&n filters on and gained only 3-4 hp. Then swapped for the bmc filters and it was the same, no difference at all on my car. But my car runs a lot stronger than it should for some reason. I was going to have to buy those bmc filters if they put down 20 more hp so it saved me 850. haha I would have loved to have had it go over 500 whp but It was making some other r8 owners very uncomfortable seeing all that power on my car so I am glad it didn't for their sake..

Not doubting your dyno tunes but I am confused with wide range of HP report gains with K&N. Earlier in this post and another post there were results relfected 15hp (I think) on K&N. How could there be such a swing on the K&N tests? On the Capristo filters to what extent is there concern with them mucking up the MAFS?

Capristo is the exhaust if not mistaken.

On my car the k&n filters gained only 3 or 4 hp. The filters have very little oil on them I don't believe it will be an issue but for the small amount of power probably not worth it. They do sound cool sucking all that air and response is better. I might swap back to the stock filters to see how it drives with just the capristo exhaust. I do like them though.

The accurate dyno tests that showed the big gains were with BMC filters, not K&N. I haven't seen any good verifiable dyno tests of before/after with K&N while the car sat on the dyno. Everyone is just assuming that the two are similar, but maybe they aren't.

Also, the strong dyno result here could be real, or just a generous dyno. The best usage of dyno data is to show before/after gains. Comparing one car on one dyno to another car on another dyno doesn't really mean much.

They put the capristo on and ran it with stock filters, then put the k&n's on and it gained 3-4 hp over the stock, that's it. They then put the same bmc filters that produced the 25 hp on the other car on mine and the results were just like the k&n's. On my car the k&n's were just like the bmc's in regards to power increase.

Oh great, installed the k&ns today but dropped the torx socket down back of engine bay and cannot see it any ideas how to get to it?
Will it cause any damage in there?

It'll end up in the rear belly pan and then eventually deposit itself onto the road. Drive a couple of days and then feel inside the two rear scoops - things like to gather there behind the little vertical piece in the scoop.

We did 3 pulls with the stock filters (after warming the car up to operating temp). We then switched to the BMC filters while the car was on the dyno and then kept the fans running until the car was completely cool again and had to be brought up to operating temp just like the OEM pulls.

I'm guessing that the more recent dyno pulls showing only a 4-5 hp increase didn't follow such a strict procedure. That could very well account for the discrepancies.

That is what I am thinking. The cars get hot quick on the dynos because no air is moving through them. At least we have confirmed with their dyno runs and my vbox data the filters do work and are not a gimmick.

That's right, We didn't let it cool that much, just the amount of time to change the filters. That might have been the difference.
