Any issues with the cats when going fi?

Anyone enlighten me to the possible problems the cats can cause when going supercharged. There is a lot more gas trying to get through these cats when supercharged does this cause a limitation on power or do you need to remove them to get the best out of the fi set up? Do the turbo companies junk the cats completely?

I think you are ok. Hell. UGR, Heffner and all the others are doing 1700 hp on stock headers on the LPs. I would imagine we have the same headers and cats.

Had a lot experience with PES supercharger systems. Never had any issue with the cats.

So the turbo guys blow through the stock headers complete with cats wow! I would have thought they would at least knock them through? The back pressure from the cats has got to increase cylinder temps and be detrimental to performance.

Yeah you may be right. Not really sure. Problem is I think you have to remove the engine to get to the headers and take them out.

Wonder how much power it would give you to knock them out. I put headers on my m6 and it ruined the car. It was so loud and had so much rasp.

The factory service documents say you do, but we have have done them with out removing the engine. And yes, we have seen cat failure on turbo R8's.

When the Cat fails...Does the CAT come apart? If so I imagine thats real good having pieces of them go thru turbine wheels

So far what we have seen is the cats dislodge as a whole and the 02 sensor stops the mass from moving forward.

Sounds rather scary. I do have a bit of performance car experience thats why I asked the questions. To put double the exhaust gasses through a 400 cell cat had me worried. We have to be realistic if the performance of the car is pushed 100% over Audi's design spec you have to expect to do some work to keep it reliable. I'm not against that but its better to do the work first then wait for the bang. If the cats come out without pulling the engine its not to big a deal and its got to help spool up times, and reduce chamber heat.
