Exclamation Stock wheels are Light-weight already

Is the reason the R 8 stock wheel is so light (@22 lbs) because it is a cast wheel? Is'nt forged a better/stronger design? Which is the heavier wheel, cast or forged (for the same size/style)?That would be a shame to pay big bucks for a heavier wheel just for better looks...Right?? I think forged wheels are more easily repaired??

Forged wheels are typically lighter and stronger than cast (molded) wheels. Not sure about repair..

Harrison, which OEM ones did you get? I got the optional 19" forged 5 spoke wheels with the 305 rears, but I don't know if that was only for the 2009's or not. These forged ones are pretty dang light, and I'm using them as my track wheels. I have HRE Monoblocks on order and they are heavier than the stock ones.

Exclamation Re: Stock wheels are Light-weight already

Same as you GIGHARBOUR.Don't we have the same size rear wheels 19x11 ? R84ME has an '09 with 19's .Fully polished/powdercoated (but not polished in insides thank God).He has 305's. I have 295's ...GO FIGURE. See my pics of my wheels in the gallery...I think I have oem 19".Just don't know if they are forged or cast .What is the quick way to know? Book says cast.I think cast...actually has 5 split spokes equaling 10 . I will ask R84ME if he has forged.I'll be bummed if you guys have an o.e.m. lighter/stronger forged version! (is there one?)

I have been looking but can not find any documentation that indicates the OEM wheel is cast or forged - whatever size. I'm assuming, since they are pretty light weight, they are forged. But ???

    OEM wheel is cast.
In 2009 a optional forged wheel was available.

You needed the Audi Exclusive package to order the forged wheels, As I recall they were $3040 extra plus the cost of the Audi Exclusive.

A forging is stronger than a casting.
since the wheel material is stronger, (yes they are still both Aluminum), you can make the forged, (less material) wheel lighter and still have the strenght of the heavier cast wheel.

I remember that too, the "titanium" finish alloys (but not made out of titanium).
