    New air filter?

you guys were AWESOME getting back to me with thoughts about wheel weight. Wondering who has done an air filter upgrade and what if any performance improvement you've seen? Thanks everyone!

There's a fairly lengthy thread discussing the evoms kit: EVOMS ECU Upgrade or V-Flow Experience?

    Re: New air filter?

I've been looking into air filters as well.

    The EVOMS kit is $1595
    http://evoms.com/marketplace/ViewPro...-EA09E348FC93}

OEMPLUS is selling a pair of "tuned" PPI filters for $960.

K&N's & BMC's web sites do not list an air filter or kit for the R8.

There may be more but the choices are still pretty limited.

    Re: New air filter?

Don't put K&N filters in your car unless you run a very lightly oiled foam filter over the K&N.

K&N's are quite hard to get oiled correctly, they DO let small particles through when "new" and "clean" and then after they start getting packed with contaminates they begin to choke off more air than a regular dirty paper filter. (and yes, I know how to clean, and correctly oil them)

I run (and have run for many years) K&N's on my desert race vehicles - but I always run a Uni foam filter over the K&N and then I run a K&N Pre-Filter/Outerware (nylon cover) over that assembly. The dry pre-filter keeps the larger particles out of the system, the oiled Uni foam filter gets the smaller stuff that gets though the pre-filter and also the small stuff that the K&N will let through. The dry outerware also keeps stuff from sticking to the oiled filter(s).

While K&N may flow more air than OEM or a paper setup, they also let more particles through.

I wouldn't put a K&N (or gauze filter) in either my RS6 or R8 if it was given to me. Not worth what could happen because of bad filtration.

Good points. Too much oil can affect sensors. The stock paper filters have a foam/gauze filter cover as you recommend. Reuse the stock cover on your new filters for extra protection. As everyone knows a wider car handles better and such a larger filter would allow more air. Fortunately the R8 air intake system keeps alot of dirt from getting to the filters. I love outerwears. I have a veh where no filter can fit so I use OUTERWARES on ends of velocity stacks. Dual 48 webers in a street bug.

K&N doesn't make a filter for the R8 anyway. I think the new PPIs look good.

Just because one manufacture does not list an application, does not mean that you cannot get one of their products to work.

It would not surprise me if you could find a K&N filter that would fit in the airbox, but you would need some form of adapter like EVOMS or PPI or Carbonio offers. It is just a matter of getting a surface that the filter mounts to, and hopefully the piece is properly designed to increase (or at the least does not limit) air flow. The pictures of the adapters I have seen, seem pretty simple for a lathe.

Thumbs up Re: New air filter?

The ultimate filter might be a single large unit that has two openings. (with velocity stacks inside the filter).Catch my drift?? But like someone stated ...don't mess with perfection?? Sheeh , the R8 needs upgrades 'fo sure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
