    Regularly tracking R8

How many of you regularly track your r8 ? I have intention to go twice a week for few hours of tracking in my stock standard r8 but cant help thinking as its quite a heavy car, its will be quite expensive in terms of tyre and brake wear.. but heck, its a great car for going to and from track especially about 100 miles away.

Think insurance if you want to talk expensive. Does anyone know of a low cost track insurance for multiple events (4-6 per year)?

I've enjoyed tracking my R8. To paraphrase MT, "no one ever said this [track days] is a cheap sport". However, if you can keep it at or below 7/10 it should not be too hard on the consumables. At a brisker pace, the weight does take its toll on tires especially.

I've found the brakes will warp quite easily when the car is tracked hard. Had 6 or so events and had to change rotors twice already. I'm not tracking this car anymore. I'll get something more nimble.

    You can try checking with
    http: hpdeins.locktonaffinity . com / Default . aspx

If yoiu are in the US, you might also try checking with either the BMW Club &/or Porsche Club national and your local regional group. Both Clubs have recently been putting together "agreed value" loss HPDE track insurance programs. Some are single event, but at least on I saw offered multiple event coverage. Check the policy terms, I think most have restrictions re: timing (as in NO timing) and limit coverage to events run under approved guidelines etc. E.g.

This is pretty cool. Thanks for the heads up. A bit more info from what I read:

    1. One premium covers a primary driver, co-driver and an instructor driver - good news for two driver cars and us instructors.
    2. Cost is the same for 1, 2, or 3 days, so you get max. value on a 3 day event
    3. It covers other club events too, like NASA and PCA
    4. Events must be listed in their web site, but it looks like the local ones of interest are already there
    5. Premium is refundable if you don't attend the event or the event is cancelled (with proof of non-attendance)
    6. It is an agreed value policy so you can cover a collectible car that is worth more than NADA or you can assume some element of the financial risk/insure only to anticipated losses short of totalling by underinsuring

The quote for a $65,000 M3 is still a bit steep at $385, but probably worth it if you had an incident. Brian

Don't want to teach you to suck eggs or anything, but a common cause of the track day warping is putting the handbrake on which the discs are still crispy?

    Re: Regularly tracking R8

Normally actual warpage of an R8 rotor is fairly uncommon - what folks usually see is this:

    1) Pad deposits feel JUST like a warped rotor
    2) Those **** right side R8 rotors....Audi cheaped out and used the LEFT rotors on the right!
The cooling vanes are BACKWARDS on the right side rotors....much more wear on pads and right rotors.

You'd be greatly served by track pads and appropriate rotors for an R8 that sees regular track use ---

    Exclamation Re: Regularly tracking R8

Audi says the car is trackable. Shouldn't they admit the rotors are incorrect on one side. Was I imaginining things when, a while back, I noticed more brake dust on one side than other? Has this been remedied on the V10s?

    Re: Regularly tracking R8

I receive customer calls / reports of huge pad and rotor wear form the right front - along with additional cracking and grooving....

It is just insane to save a few bucks and use the left rotors on the right side.
