    Lightbulb Still in shock

I see that HRE (a very fine co.) offers a wheel for the R 8 in black chrome. Go figure. Anyways I am in love with their C.F. wheels. Two styles of spokes available. I don't want the straight spokes. HRE has a line of Competition wheels that doesn't include the C.F. wheels. A charcoal finish is available that looks too cool. If anyone can suggest a sweeter wheel than the HREs' PLEASE chime in. I am missing driving my baby. Especially at the track. It may turn out the R 8 is just too easy to track fast. In which case I may go back to what I know best--2 wheel drive. Now I understand why the purists dislike the R tronik--TOO easy !!!

Oh there are a lot of things purists hate. Stability control, traction control, abs. It's a different driving experience. Want a hoot? Drive an old car or a racing car with no electronics like in the older RX7 series racers. Heck, my old Ferrari locks up the wheels pulling to a stop sign if you don't know what you are doing. I drove an antique Alfa once that was like driving a truck but man it was fun. Now try driving a GTR which honestly is like cheating.

When you are in SoCal, give HRE a call and go and see their wheels. They are in Vista, CA (north county of San Diego). That way you can see their finishes and feel the weight differences. I liked that they had their own in-house facilities and even do repairs on wheels that are sent to them. I visitied them right before the carbon wheels became available and it was nice to see them in person.

The carbon wheels are not available now, due to the issues with Dymag. However, you can cruise down to Vista and see the full line of wheels...

The HRE Carbon wheel used the carbon drums from DyMag and an aluminum center from HRE with Ti fastners.

It is still worth seeing their products and finishes so you can see what you like.

If you want a track car, get a Lotus Elise: pure adulterated driving joy
