    ABT S/C Install

A while ago I was planning on dropping in on ABT to see their S/C conversion but in the end I couldn't make it, sadly.

Anyway, I have just seen an article in UK EVO mag and it slates the conversion - in a nutshell, they love the extra power and torque describing it as '.. frighteningly quick, charging to the redline with such undiminished vigour that, more often than not, you'll back off before you uncork the full potential.." but they hated the '... the lurch that accompanies throttle-lifts and the flat spot between 2900 and 3400rpm..."

To be clear, I am NOT saying don't s/c, TT, just buyer beware - ABT have a good reputation too! For £20k, I must admit I would want to try before I lashed out that much cash, but then, I'm cheap and a pu$$y.. ;-)
    Best Regards, Ian

    Re: ABT S/C Install

The flat spot around 2900-3400, is something that our engineers encountered during early days of software development. We pin pointed a cause and created a solution to eliminate what we experienced.

Not all SC kits are designed the same way and a reputable company (in the case of the above mentioned, who does not appear to specialize in making FI kits) is not neccessarily perfect, as generalisation.

Many German tuning houses outsource development and there are many examples of this, which are not openly discussed.

The UK is about to see some supercharged VF R8's hit their roads very shortly and maybe we can show the writers at EVO Mag what British engineers in California are capable of !

As I said I was't trying to bad mouth anyone, just passing on information as I was disappointed with ABT. Evo mag is very pro modded cars so for them to point this out so strongly means they were disappointed too I guess.

Nik, next time I am over will swing on buy, sorry, by ;-)

Hmmm, interesting, the online version of this review is VERY different to the magazine article. See http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...ercharged.html

No mention of the flat spot, looks like they must have fixed! Apart from the nearly $50k cost, nett positive now...

As I understand, Nik and VF Engineering will soon be going to UK for a R8 supercharger install. Maybe this would be a prime opportunity for other UK 4.2L R8 owners to contemplate adding this unit to their own ride.

    Re: ABT S/C Install

I have always been a fan of turbo charging over supercharging but I have to say that VF set-up looks SO much better (more original) than the TT set-ups I have seen here.

Nik, where will the install be taking place in the UK?
