ABT Sportsline Debut 600-hp V10 R8 GTR in Geneva

I love seeing the tuners agreeing that the R8 should loose weight to be its very best.

Germany’s largest and best-known Audi/VW-tuner ABT Sportsline will display three finely-tuned new models, as well as an even more hard-core version of the V10-powered R8 5.2. Called the ABT R8 GTR, this German exotic is based off the modified R8 5.2 that ABT brought to Geneva last year, and boasts the same V10 under the hood, which has been tuned to 600-hp.

New for 2010, the GTR model will get an even more aggressive aero treatment, with most of the body panels made of carbon fiber. In fact, ABT has taken a light-weight approach with the GTR model, manufacturing the hood, front and rear bumpers out of carbon fiber, while the rear hatch has been replaced with a carbon fiber unit and the glass swapped out for light-weight plexiglass. Just 25 R8 GTRs will be built.

Along with this monster, ABT will display a more subtle R8 Spyder as well as the first modified version of Audi’s new flagship A8.

Re: ABT Sportsline Debut 600-hp V10 R8 GTR in Geneva

I really don't know how all these body kit companies make a living. I went to Geneva show a few years ago and was looking for body kits to liven up a 996 and a SL55 that were both looking a bit dated.

Well there were lots of kits on display and 95% looked horrid or were of extremely poor quality. Some of the 'scissor door' kits looked like they had been made with a bread knife and a handful of mud! All the kits without exception were ridiculously over priced for what they were. But these kit makers are at the shows year after year and a stand an Geneva isn't cheap, someone must buy them.

I ended up buying a OEM MB sport front end for the SL and a OEM Cup kit for the 996.

I still think that the majority of cosmetic kits for the R8 look awful and cheap. The original cars with subtle additions (like H's) always look far better.

    Just IMHO of course.
    Regards, Graham.

I think the most successful auto body mods are those that serve direct track/race car function. Such a focus of purpose always provides proper definition. And the result is, if nothing else, purely natural to the task at hand.

Yes I agree, form follows function. Race cars nearly always look good.

WOW! Great car, but thats going a bit extreme to pass. I would be surprised if there was no wheel or suspension damage.

Looks to me like the loss of control resulting from that stunt probably ran the corvette C6R off the road. And then he celebrates? Poor sportsmanship should never be rewarded.
