    Race Keeper

    Good morning,

Has anyone installed the Race Keeper data system in their car? Looks to be a very complete system and I know the Porsche school uses the product. I was interested in how / where the system and cameras are mounted, how the power is wired in the R8 and if you use the OBDII link.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    MW,

I know we're resurrecting an old thread here but the local Race-Keeper rep just installed the HE system into an R8 here at EPL with the OBDII Interface. The customer will be using the system for the first time this weekend. It is a very capable and easy to use system.

    Re: Race Keeper

Thanks for the reply. Very clean installation. I'm impressed. I did buy the Racekeeper system and have been very happy with the performance. Since my Audi is not a dedicated track car I set up the system for track days and then remove it for around town driving. I like the bracket that you fashioned next to the seat for the wire junction.

I have had some trouble getting the OBD cable to fit into the existing OBD port because of the surrounding plastic shroud. Racekeeper suggests cutting back the shroud to allow access. Did you face a similar issue?

    Re: Race Keeper

A right angle OBDII cable end was used to provide maximum clearance under the dash. The installer elected to modify the dash where it shrouds the OBDII port to make this work. Another option is to re-locate the OBDII port itself but this was deemed unecessary.

The bracket next to the seat that the OBDII box is mounted on is actually the aftermarket mount for the RECARO racing shell that is in this particular car. It was convenient. The OBDII box might be more difficult to mount with the stock seats in the car, but there is a lot of space in the center tunnel area so you could run the cable and module in the middle of the car fairly easily.

Thanks for the note. Now that you mention it, I can see that the Recaro seat offers some extra room on the side for your OBDII mount. I will most likely just modify the dash shroud. Fortunately I have a 90 degree cable. It will be great to start getting the OBDII data recorded.
