    TID Paddles too LARGE ??

Some of you will undoubtedly find the TID R-Tronik Paddle extentions too large. Once they are applied they may be very hard to remove.(complete assembly). Instead of breaking the glue joint or even the paddle itself, remove the two small allen screws holding the cf piece to the paddle "bucket". Here are pics of my mods. Also a pic of another version paddle which is also too large. I think I have arrived at a solution. A trim job. Used a diamond blade on high speed grinder. (Trusty Makita angle-4 or 4 1/2 incher,I always joke, that if I lost an arm, a Makita fitted in place would do just fine). After cutting, filed slightly, then sanded with 1,000 grit wet paper. Next a few dabs of clear coat and no one will know they have been chopped/cut/rebuilt. Enjoy, I am pretty sure I have gold plated this ugly situation. My fingers would get stuck between paddle/wheel, knees would hit, and wiper and light sticks were dangerously too close. Problems solved. This was my first attempt at butchering cf. No worries, shapes up like aluminium ! I still need to apply the clear coat and then color sand before re-assembly. \"/ Since I am trapped at home with a little extra time ,I Finally got around to doing this mod. My street is getting a new sewer line to recycle waste water to use for irrigation.I needed new pavement as well. They lay 300 feet per day.

    Your work looks good.

If there is any fraying of the fibers where you cut it off, find some of the thin super glue (you'll need to go to a hobby shop for it) and very lightly coat the fibers with it.

From there you can do the sanding (wet, not dry) and final prep/paint.

When TID did the development for this product, do you think they ever intended you to actually drive with them attached ? Ironic that you have to major modify them to be useful...

Tanx KfabR8. Great advice. Honestly I think these parts were designed for a different model Audi. I could be wrong. The high speed diamond blade (new) left no frayed cf fibers. Second coat of clear now applied. A smoothing over, polish, and wer'e ready to roll. In ariz. a popular excuse for being late is...a cow got loose. This is MY pet cow, here in Cali. !! \"/ DOWN THERE TO THE LEFT WHERE THE BLACK CARS ARE PARKED IS WHERE I FILMED THE AUDI RINGS DOUGHNUT VIDEO CLIP.

    I think you are right.

From what I can tell, those paddles are made for the Audi TT and not specifically designed to fit the R8 at all. It just so happens that the other Audi models have the same OEM paddles therefore these fit many Audi models including the R8.

they are designed for the TT, but how can they be too large for the R8 but ok for the TT?? i would have thoght the wheel is the same size. Are there any other paddle shifters on the market for the R8?

Re: TID Paddles too LARGE ??

Thanx, I did copy the PPI paddle slightly. Feels golden now. CAN still hit paddle with knee if wheel left upside down. But I won't do that. Will be a golden trackday Thursday. My home track with Hoosier R6 Slicks. My tires now exeed the power of the car (at local canyon ,anyways). \"/
