    Hankook evo v12 review's

    hi everyone,
Recently i was debating on which tires to get, and initially decided on the Yoko's. But I decided to try out the Hankook's especially since they were so inexpensive. Here are my thoughts on them, while driving home from Niagara Falls NY to Toronto. 245 in front and 305's in rear.

    1. The sidewalls are softer then the stock pirelli's. I definately felt the difference immediately.

    2. Quieter, but i noticed in 6th gear at 3000 rpm's there's a whistling noice. Harrison, you might know what I'm talking about. Ever be in high gear (5-6th) in the R1, and at low RPM's you just turn the throttle. You get that whistling noise from the engine/carbs.

    3. side to side manuevering was very squirmmy (apex). I think this was due to the soft sidewalls.

I'm probably gonna raise the PSI (at 36 i think) and hopefully it'll change a little.

A few more days in the car and I can come to a conclusion if I should have tried something else.

I have them.........305s and 235s. Ride far superior to Pirellis. So far so good (one week).

But are the stock Pirellis WORTH twice as much?? I think the 245s and 315s Kooks are great grocery getters. And they might last as long.(maybe better). Hoosier or Trofeos are next set.

Well, it's time to replace the OEM Pirelli's. I'm strongly considering these Hankooks, but the reported softness, squishiness, etc. gives me concern. I'd wait on the alleged Michelin Super Sports, but not sure I can hold out that long. So, for all you Hankook Evo V12--R8 users, how have these tires grown on you; or not?

I'm surprised there aren't more people trying the Continental ExtremeContact DW. Ranks higher than PS2s in Tire Rack's comparison test at a fraction of the price.

The Evo is working just fine on my R8 as a spirited touring tire. Wet and dry. Have only seen speeds of 160 with this tire. (so far) Approx. 5,000 mi and am very happy. And the money saved goes right back into another set of proper track tires.

Thanks, Harrison. So, you haven't experienced any sloppiness, wallowing, imprecision with side-to-side steering, etc. in spirited day-to-day driving? If not, then I think I'm sold.

My R8 is stable and secure with the Evo V12s. I feel lucky such a low cost tire can do what the Evos do.
