M3 VS R8 4.2.I still trying to find out the winner

there are two videos on youtube which are comparing in dragrace the R8 and M3.
can someone tell me finally which one is the faster car because although R8 is lighter and has 43Nt and BMW 40Nt torque, i think that the gearbox of M3(DPK) is much better than my R-tronic which finally make the M3 faster than my R8
which is the top speed of M3 without speed limit?
which is the best way for R8 to win the M3 in a drag race?by using launch control or accelerate after 50Km/h?

Go to the track against an M3 and give it a try? Sitting back and crunching the numbers will only get you so far.

As far as preference, I don't think most people would pick the R8 over the M3 based on performance alone.

the various videos and reviews I've seen have them pretty level-pegging - driver ability would far outweigh any mechanical capability difference imo.

with regards to dual clutch vs the single-clutch r-tronic, in a race I can't really see there being anything in as we're only talking shift speed differences measured in milliseconds. the single clutch issues come into play more at slow speeds, not racing.

0 to 60 is critical for a standing start race, considering being in the pole position. Even if you don't make it to the first turn first...It is your handling in the turns that makes or breaks you.The all wheel drive system can handle a lot of abuse, but why ruin it pre-maturely? With controlled launches, just for the fun of it? Yet I find the R8 V8 to have a decent sling shot accelleration, even for such a HEAVY car. I will race MYR8's New BIMMER in the next few days.

The R8 will kill the M3 on the track. In a drag race depending on the start the M3 engine revs higher and carries more top end speed will enventually pass the R8. The M3 is a decent car but not R8 good.

I disagree. I have passed many M3's at the track, but I have also been passed by a few. It depends on the driver and what goodies are on each car IMHO. If you add TT or SC there is no question the R8 is faster, but if you add TT or SC to an M3 me thinks they win.

not to be flippant, but 100mph is hardly pushing the boat out with cars so evenly matched on hp. a mis-shift or poor laumch and that's not enough time to even begin to pull it back.
