    650 TT R8 V8 r-tronic vs 650 hp 997.2 TT PDK

on battle of the supercars on speed channel (USA). the porsche owned the R8 on all counts. i'm not sure that car was producing the power it claimed. looked more like 550 hp. not online yet since it just aired yesterday but i'll try to keep the post updated.

they even tried spraying ice cold water on the intercoolers to see if that would improve the 0-100-0 time, lol. no dice.

650hp? Would have to be the Heffner 8lbs kit to make that power. I would think that a 575-600 number is realistic for the 6lb package they regularly sell...

Although the R8 was in its testing stage it was too painful to watch. A complete decimation by the Porsche Turbo.

    Rich,
This was an EVOMS "bolt on" R8 that they put together this spring/summer. Similar to the Heffner application in terms of power, but EVOMS isn't marketing it much apparently.

Thankfully for me, this car has been used as a guinea pig for track tuning and testing all summer in the AZ heat, and what they're learning from it they are applying to the build they are doing on my car. Cooling and heat intake has been a major concern, and if you watched that video you will see that. It was embarassing! My car is slated to have something like 300 more HP than this one, so hopefully the heat issues are getting resolved

Then again, that EVOMS 997TT PDK is incredibly fast. I think the 0 to 60 is under 3 seconds and it keeps on going. What an amazing car, very impressive. This show was taped on a Monday this summer....that 997TT was up in Seattle on the Saturday beforehand doing a car show and road rally. Parvin at EVOMS then drives the car all the way back to AZ, 1400 miles, gets in Monday morning, and they tape the show same day, and it kills the R8.

Just have them redo that Battle with your car once it's done.

Roman, I'm glad to hear your car is coming along. We all can't wait to see the results!

I ran my STaSIS supercharged R8 V8 at the Audi Club HPDE event at the SCCA track near Buttonwillow (near Bakersfield, California) the last two days. Afternoon temperatures were over 100degF, and I was having cooling problems (along with many other cars). For example, after lunch I was dueling a BMW M3 (chipped, exhaust, huge tires, and a much more experienced driver than I) and we both had to stop pushing at almost the same time (about 3 or 4 laps in) due to oil and water temps approaching redline. Even my son's ZR1 (also supercharged, but by the OEM and without any modifications other than track tires) had cooling issues in the heat. The turbo Audis (such as the RS6) were also exceeding their cooling capacity.

By the way, the R8 computer protects you from accidentally damaging the engine. If you miss or ignore the first warning light, the rev limiter comes down to 6,000 RPM to reduce the power output. When the temps lift off the thermostat and head for redline, backing off slightly and short-shifting for a quarter to half a lap will bring the temps down out of the warning zone, but if you keep pressing they will come right back up again.

Brakes also became an issue. The first afternoon I boiled the fluid at the end of my last session (hottest part of the day), even with Motul 600 RBF and new Brembo front rotors. Bleeding the brakes with plenty of fresh fluid* solved the problem and the second day the brakes held up fine. However, the car is going to get a complete brake flush before it goes on the track again to make sure all of the damaged fluid is removed. I'm also going to have the oils changed, given the extreme duty they were exposed to.

    * I won three bottles of Motul RBF at the auction that evening, how timely! A big Thank You to Motul for sponsoring our Audi Club chapter with such a generous amount of their products.

NOT good overheating in the heat of battle. I hope this gets sorted out for you. I wonder what problems the TTs might encounter whilst tracking. I thought water/alcohol injection might remedy the cooling issues.

Didn't see the video until now, so I now know where the kit came from.

Glad to hear that your car is coming along and I look forward (like you) to it being DONE so we can all hear about it! I hope you're still planning to come visit on your way home...
