Angry APR flash for V10 really ready for prime time ?

Pretty dissapointed . . . I saw the post for the V10 ECU flash posted by APR and called the closet APR dealer, ICS Performance in Stamford, Ct. They picked my car up this past Wednesday to do the flash for my v10 and then returned the car 6 hours later and said they could not get the right file from APR that matched my ECU numbers - ??? Called me Thursday and said the engineer at APR finally got them the right file and would pick the car up today and flash it. This afternoon they called and said the flash would only take on one ECU and not the other and were talking to APR and that the APR engineer said they would have the right file at 5 pm today. I told them to just return the car. I am not sure whether the problem is with the dealer or if this upgrade is not ready for prime time with APR ???? Pretty frustrating to say the least. Could APR provide some feedback. Thanks

They do seem to rush products out. RS4 flash has been out for a couple years and still no fully loaded version ready, Did APR on my R8 over a year ago and same for that one. Seems they like moving on to next car to get the new money instead of finishing older ones. Would bother me getting one for new V10 without option to keep original stock program.

To the best of my knowledge there are least 4 versions of the ECU.

    The software numbers are;

    420907552A H02 0010,
    420907552A H02 0020,
    420907552A H02 0030,
    420907552A H02 0040

It is critical that the flash be programed for the correct version.

    LAT are correct!

    tunari13,

Audi has multiple ECU's and multiple software versions for each ECU. From time to time, Audi will issue dealership 'Updates' which will update your ECU with a new software revision to fix or change something in their software. You can only tell your ECU part number and software revision by visiting an APR dealer or by using a Vag-Com to pull up engine controller information.

As soon as Audi makes a change, we get a hold of the change and integrate it into our own software. Typically the changes do not affect performance, but rather change a control strategy for some controller in the car. For example, they may issue an update that changes the software in one controller in the car. When they do this, the ECU needs to be updated so it knows how to correctly read the new information from the updated controller.

In your case, you simply had a newer version of the software from Audi. We could 'force' the APR software on to your car and get you out the door but that's not the right way to do it! As I mentioned before, it's possible the Audi update changed other controllers in the car so it's important to not use different base revisions.

The good thing is, this is not an issue. Your dealer simply needed to preform a "Code Extract" which sends us your updated ECU code. We analyze the code, find the change Audi made, apply it to our software calibration and upload it to our servers so every APR dealer in the world can have instant access to it.

Without going into too personal of detail, the electrical engineer responsible for this task was in and out of the office this week due to a sick family member. Obviously that's not typical! Normally it takes a couple hours or 1 business day to have software ready.

The dealer simply had to wait till he was able to make the file before we were able to flash it to your ECU. There is no reason you can't use your vehicle in the mean time. We'll simply call you, or the dealer, and let you know when it's ready. If I understand correctly, they told you it's ready, correct?

Got my flash today . . . early but my initial reaction to the APR flash + the Stassis exhaust is WOW ! not even close to stock. I do not yet have the ability to toggle between stock and flash but APR promises it will come shortly. I will drive the rest of the week and provide an update.

Not that amazing, exhaust is usually the first mod people do to a car. Not sure if it's the same for the V10 but when I had APR done to my V8 the tech used what he called a "test pipe" setting since I had Stasis exhaust. Said it would give more power than regular.

On 91 octane we noticed a rather nice bump in power when adding an exhaust. It got pretty close to the 93 octane figures. On 93 octane, there was only a little bit more power added in the midrange once an exhaust was added. Essentially, it was pretty maxed out as far as timing advance was concerned so it did not show high gains on the dyno. On the street with air rushing over the car like it should, I'm sure you would see slightly higher gains.

    arin,
question for you. i was debating a ecu tune and was told by audi/Austin tx that the Stasis products come with a 4/50k warranty that is honored by Audi/usa. The dealership told yes but audi/usa says "no way". so i am guessing Stasis has there own or a 3rd party warranty for the 4/50k
my question is this Stasis wants $3500 clams for their tune and APr's is $1500????? Does Apr have warrantys for drivetrain and how save/conservative is your tune. Also soncerned about codes and reflashes if dealership mistakenly erases ecu with a recall update etc.....
    thanks,
    marc
