R8 LMS or GT3 Style Rear Wing?

Is anything like this available for purchase? Brands?
I really need want to enhance the aero package by adding a serious rear wing with plenty of downforce and a large front splitter.

Will be doing more track days soon and I need to keep the Porsche guys at bay!

Exclamation Re: R8 LMS or GT3 Style Rear Wing?

Even Audi thinks a front splitter isn't necessary. The front canards must be doing the job. And the Gt wing is lower and smaller than the PPI wings some of us have. But ALL my logik goes out the window when I think of my Buddies Honda S2000 race car that has got less H.P. yet does 5 second better laptimes...So it all must come to be a weight issue. The R8 is a safe, heavy lug-nut of a Super-car.

Yes, I believe so. That is the APR Performance GTC-500 adjustable wing.

I just learned that front canards offer very little downforce. like 10 lbs at 100mph. yet make plenty of wind resistance.

Re: R8 LMS or GT3 Style Rear Wing?

The APR is the perfect wing for a track oriented R8. The downforce is indeed HUGE. So much so that I also think a front spoiler is necessary to keep everything balanced at VERY hi speeds.

My wing is also the APR proto-type for the R8, and we did have a small problem with the original mounting bracket bases, due to the extreme downforce loads. I have solved the problem on my car, but APR does not yet have this solution. They are in Calif, and my car has not been there in a year now, and unfortunately, my R8 has been the only R8 available for them to do the design setups. I hope to have my R8 back with them this next month (Dec), so we can complete the front splitter and let them reconfigure the base on the rear wing using the PPI type brackets.

The best overall way to mount the wing is same as used by PPI. It is the least intrusive, and easy to return back to stock That said, the base brackets I now have on my wing are rock hard stable and extremely solid. So is the PPI design.

The ideal wing setup would be the APR wing, mounted on the PPI style support brackets, which will become available as soon as my car returns to APR. The APR wing is absolutely beautiful on the R8. The only holdup in completing this design is me getting my R8 back to APR in Walnut, CA. ( I don't live in CA.) Unfortunately, this has resulted in Maverick's understandable frustration in getting his wing completed. My sincere apologies for that.

Re: R8 LMS or GT3 Style Rear Wing?

Hi Bodhii, are you suggesting PPI Mounts with APR wing? If so, do the 2 components mount together ok?

The APR wing is awesome, the CFD data is impressive. But, I really don't want to cut up my engine cover to install. The PPI install as per Harrisons photo looks much less intrusive.

Maybe I should wait for APR to produce a solution?? Thoughts?

Also, I would definitely order the front Splitter as well! Balance out the downforce...

Hey Bodhii, any updates re APR wing? Should I buy one? Apparently, the install requires only some drill holes? Any pics of your install?

Re: R8 LMS or GT3 Style Rear Wing?

Bz888, I am hoping it will all come together this month. APR Performance will NOT be using PPI's support brackets, but will use a similar setup. As soon as my friends in Vegas have fixed a prob with a ruined KW shock that I caused, ( a huge pothole)... I will be taking the car to Calif. Once there, APR can finalize the design on the support brackets.

So I say wait until its all finished. The finished APR wing will not get to you any sooner by doing the purchase now. And hopefully APR will have a new R8 front splitter design to go with the R8 rear wing. But I have also learned the unglamorous truth, that patience is most important virtue when finishing new performance designs.
