    YOKOHAMA ADVAN NEOVA AD08

I want to add my early impressions on the new YOKOHAMA ADVAN NEOVA AD08's.
First I should say that my car is not setup in normal OEM R8 fashion,.. with its lower, and stiffer KW racing suspension and no magnetic ride, and NO traction control, it is indeed very different than stock, and in many ways, NOT very user friendly. ,, I got these tires with only street driving in mind. In my very short time with these tires, they have scored very high at hard street driving and extremely wet weather. Especially in the wet.

Recently I was forced to do several 60+ miles drives thru the heart of Los Angeles' crazy freeways during 4 days of their VERY torrential pre-Xmas rains and floods with my big horsepower R8 and with NO traction control!! These tires were superb in every way! Luckily I had raised my car's suspension a little before the whole trip, and had no front splitter attached as well, but I still made some significant body contact into large deep puddles several times,.. at over 50+ MPH, and never once did I loose tire contact or control! I was completely amazed. As my confidence increased,.. the tires continued to hold fast. My Toyo R888's would have had me floating at 35+. ( This I do know). Day after day of these crazy pouring rains, I drove and drove the LA freeways and never lost grip despite an endless amount of awkward avoidance maneuvers everyday.

On a couple of shorter but spirited, and much dryer drives,.. the tires were also great thru some short journeys into the Malibu Canyons. They gripped very precisely, perfectly on edge, and needed very little warming up.

This is only a very early and hasty review on these tires. I used the tires for only 2 weeks, and I will not be using my car again for a couple more weeks. At that time, I may try these tires for a day on the track. I did not buy them with that idea in mind, but I have now become more interested in their overall abilities.

Anyway, they have performed amazingly well so far for a hi-performance street tire. It would be very interesting to hear the results of someone with a more stock R8 using these tires regularly. In the end, I may not see them as quite so wonderful, but from my short experience, I definitely think they are worth trying.

    sizes:
    245/35/19
    295/30/19

Thanks for the first impressions. I'll try them out this spring as my wet track tires.

Thanks for the post. Im conscious of wet traction, being in FL. Bridgestone use to have a compound called UNI-T, that made for fantastic wet traction. Was wondering if Firestone / Bridgestone had something along that line, or what tires R 8 owners have found with good wet traction..

Johnbodhii, do you not have traction controll because you converted to rear wheel drive only?? Human controll is faster. Or you just opted to handle our wet with it turned off for fun??

The TC was completely disconnected as we were doing changes to the KW suspension. For all normal street driving, and especially in the rain, I absolutely WANT traction control! On the track, however, I do not.

I will not take out the front differential until I see that everything is completely ready and available to convert the R8 into a full race car at a reasonable price. Until then its just a fun track/ street machine, with slightly more emphasis on the tracking part.

If we can finish up with a quality splitter/ wing package for the R8 with APR Performance, we may go for a good looking (?) wide-body kit to get some bigger rubber contact to the tarmac.

    Bodhi,

Speaking of aero-enhancements, I spoke with APR Performance earlier this week and they told me the only way they recommend attaching their rear wing on the R8 is by hole-though mountings on or adjacent to the the engine hatch. Different mounts were not being developed. However, they did say they had just started development of an R8 front air dam/splitter, though they had no idea when it would be ready for sale.

What was your take on these developments when you last visited their offices?

LOL,.. My car is with APR right now..
To be honest they do not want to field questions until the parts are finished, or at least very very near finished. It is my bad for talking about these things.

So please be patient. It is all months away. NOT WEEKS. BUT MONTHS!
