    Cool Thoughts on Fuel Additives

Enjoying the "What type of gas" thread, had me wondering about commerical fuel additives.

Like Lucas oil.. labeled as a Injector Cleaner.. but it alleges being a Lubricant for cylinders etc, as well. Ive known people that would add a wee bit of Marvin's Mystery Oil to the gas too.

As we do have 10% Ethanol in FL Gas, the Lucas cleaner / lubricator seems like a good idea.

Of course there are other brands, like a Techron additive, etc.

    Thoughts?

Any mechanics in our group.. have actual knowledge?

    Thanks

I would say there is no need for it. Use top tier fuels, and don't lug your engine. Give her some loving revs every time she's warmed up.

Never used any on any car ever as I don,t believe you can truly value any benefit.

Seen over the years lots of so called additives put to the test and they account for nothing.(i.e fuel additives)

    Check this one out..

For me its far better to stick to the basics and make sure you always use the right brand of oil and do oil changes more regularly than the service book requires.

Also use a top quality fuel from a garage you can always trust.

My 4.2 seems to like 76s' PREMIUM gas much better than other brands. I can say my start-ups are smoother. Yet my friend insists all gasolines are the same...except for Chevron with its' Techron additive. I will stick with my local 76 station and be happy.

    Re: Thoughts on Fuel Additives

There is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 00-07-09) applicable to the R8, among others. It permits using Audi pn G 001 700 03 fuel additive to cure misfire caused by low quality gasoline. It's mentioned in this thread on Random Misfire: Update on Spark Plugs and Gasoline, related to Random Misfire
