After fitting a Milltek pipe, should I try a chip?

Just fitted a Milltek resonated pipe to my 08 R8 (three night's DIY in my garage - what fun! )....sounds really great and sorry I didn't do it sooner and I'm wondering if a chip upgrade would make any noticable difference? We have an Upsolute dealer here in Dublin, Irl or I have heard of some in-car adjustabele systems Vieuzu or something like that? - Anyone got any thoughts?

Also the dealer is suggesting changing my brake fluid after 2 1/2yrs -? and also a pollen filter adding about €450 to service costs, which sounds like a bit of a scam. At 20,000 miles they still don't suggest changing spark plugs or the air filters which I thought strange!

I have an 08 r8 too mate and had it serviced a few months ago at 20k. They mentioned pollen also but I didn't bother, parts super cheap but cost is mostly labor as it's hard to get to. But mate do smart thing and just have audi do minimum so you have your stamp and get your mechanic to do the rest, will save you a fortune.

Here are the items you mention from the 2009 Scheduled Maintenance Intervals page in the R8 Service Manual:
Brake Fluid – replace every 2 years regardless of mileage.
Air Cleaner – clean housing, replace filter element every 55K miles
Spark Plugs - replace at 55,000 miles or 6 years, whichever occurs first. Then, every 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever occurs first.
Dust and Pollen Filter – replace at 15K miles, then every 20K miles.

(I tried attaching the schedule but couldn't get the file size small enough.)

Just do what mark says get them to do the short service or even use a vat registered performance centre do it.

Then do the rest yourself, filters and changing oil are easy things.

I like to my performance cars every 3,000 miles or after 2-3 track days I keep an eye on them.

my drift car gets oil changes after most drift days does spend a lot of time on the rev limit tho

In regards to a chip I would probably ask RS4CAB as he had a chip added.

Be warned though because he will probably just advise you to buy a Supercharger.

Search is also a good friend

Re: After fitting a Milltek pipe, should I try a chip?

I had my 08 V8 chipped when I added the Milltek non resonated exhaust. There was a slight increase in torque in parts of the rev range but to be honest the difference was not that noticeable. With a naturally aspirated engine you can only tweak maybe 5% with a remap, hardly worth it really. If you want a real change try the Vf Engineering supercharger. I did it a year ago and after 5k + miles on the clock its awesome. It was reviewed by EVO and managed runner up in Tuner of the year 2010 car. The winner a Nissan GTR had about 50k sterling spent on its upgrades.

Thanks for the tips - regarding a supercharger, I was looking at the German ABT unit - think its about €23,000, but that's a lot cheaper than changing up to a V10 !

Re: After fitting a Milltek pipe, should I try a chip?

When I did APR chip to my car I did feel a slight improvement, dyno showed about 12 hp and 10 tq at the wheels. Better bang for the buck for making driving more fun would be Sprintbooster. Noticed the difference in that more than chip even though it doesn't give you more power. But like Gazza1 said, I would recommend not wasting money for those slight gains, go right to Stasis/VF Superchager. Like you said cheaper than trading up for V10 and you will have more power than the V10.
