    New Tires (Michelin Super Sports)

I've seen a number of threads re: replacement tires for our cars and today I had a set of the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports put on and what a difference over the stock Pirellis.

I'll update this thread after the 4 day Quattro de Mayo event coming up here in the Southeast. This will give me a good idea of how they handle on the dragon. For those not familiar, the Tail of The Dragon is a stretch of road in SE Tennessee comprised of 318 turns in a mere 11 miles.

    Stay tuned...

Some things never change. My Porsche was much happier after replacing the stock Pirellis with a set of Michelins. Having said that, the P-Zeros on the R8 don't seem that bad. What is different between the two?

I don't get why all the hate against the Pirellis. When the P-Zeros first came out they were hailed as great tires and have been around a long time. How'd they suddenly become so bad? Granted, the new Michelins are supposed to be very fast and grippy but they just came out this month. But how does that make the P-Zeros into the villain? I've read so much vitriol against them but I just don't get it. Maybe those who track their cars find them to be wanting but as street tires go, I've yet to even make them chirp once so I'm obviously not pushing them to their limits with the kind of driving I do and am therefore perfectly happy with them. Anyone who hates them care to explain why?

I didn't know new rubber can almost feel almost as gratifying as sex... I just had to take a picture.

That rubber feels very soft indeed... if it holds up like Michelin say it does then they have a world class winner on their hands.

Too bad they don't have my sizes yet. Hopefully they'll release more sizes in the not-too-distant future.

I also don't have any issues with them, I find them much better than my hankooks. Trying to wear the hankooks down so I can switch to the other sets of rims with the pirelli's on.

I don't belong to the hate them camp but I can say that car felt loose in many places where there was pooled water during a rain storm last fall. More so that the PS2 I have on my M5 and it is only a 2 wheel drive.

    While I don't hate the P-Zeros, I sure don't like them.

They're hard as bricks, they chunked badly for me by 10K miles, they make horrid noise when they start being pushed, they let go w/o any warning, they don't stick anywhere near as well as PS2s (and I'm guessing the Pilot Sports - which mine should be here now...) and they didn't last as long as PS2s either.

Overall, just not a superior tire for a superior car.

I also must stress that my driving style and techniques may not jive with the P-Zeros as well as the PS2s I'm presently running.

Exclamation Re: New Tires (Michelin Super Sports)

Like comparing apples to oranges...You are comparing your worn out Pirellis to brand new Michs. If the Pirellis were inferior, Audi wouldn't endanger us, especially when we are new to the R8 supercar. What would that do to Audis' awesome reputation?? Street tires are just that...street tires. When conditions permit, step up to a true track tire and see what good tires really are.I am fortunate enough to run Hoosier slicks(dot approved) practically year 'round.
