    Just bought a 2008 R8

    Hello everyone,
I just purchased a 2008 R8 (liquid silver/blk leather). I was in decision making mode on a 2004 Gallardo or a 2008 R8. I decided to do the R8 and keep it for a year or two and then get a 2006+ Gallardo then. What the car needs the most for me is some sound. I have not heard an aftermarket exhaust in perosn on the R8 but only youtube videos. I liked the Stasis Exhaust sounded pretty nice. I drive the car 4 times a week so I don't want something crazy loud where it gets annoying. Any suggestions?
    Cheers

If you don't want loud, stay away from the STaSIS. It's uncomfortably loud - at least to me.

I believe that desperado's been playing with a Magnaflow system that produces a nice sound that's not over the top loud. Try giving the search function with his name and magnaflow in the fields.

There are quite a few threads on this topic too.

Welcome to R8 ownership, btw. It's a great thing!
Please add your location in your profile - the car's a world wide market item and things are different in certain markets. It will help when getting questions answered. Thanks.

    Congrats on the new car!

Have you had a chance to hear our SwitchPath Exhaust?

We utilize a central muffler with acoustical packing material along with a proprietary valve control system in order to keep the part throttle volume levels civil and let it really wail at wide open throttle.

What really makes our SwitchPath Exhaust special is the valve control system I mentioned. We weren't happy with the way the factory valve control sounded on a less restrictive exhaust system, so we engineered our own solution.

At idle and anything below 3/4 throttle, the valves are closed routing exhaust gasses through the central muffler with acoustical packing material. This gives you a muscular V8 sound while still keeping overall volume at a civil level for around town cruising and long drives.

At anything above 3/4 throttle the valves open and the exhaust goes into "Straight Pipe" mode, bypassing the muffler completely and giving exhaust gases the shortest possible path out of the car.

Also included is an in-cabin SwitchPath controller toggle, so you can switch between "Normal" and "Straight Pipe" mode on the fly. Want the system to be quiet for a leisure drive around the block? Leave it in the default mode. Want to elderly women? Switch to Straight Pipe mode.

Here's a video of our SwitchPath Exhaust in action:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnvazw5enfc&feature=player_embedded"]AWE Tuning R8 4.2L SwitchPath Exhaust[/ame]

Also of note, the 24lb weight savings and the power gains of +25 hp / +28 ft-lb @ 4700 rpm.

You can read more here: http://www.awe-tuning.com/products/a...h-exhaust.html

I hope that helps your exhaust decision! If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Let me know if I can help with anything.

I have the Milltek fitted, and it is the perfect balance. Pretty quiet at idle, and a great sound under throttle. With no drone at all! And mine is the non- resonated version.

I'm sure the Tubi sounds great, but is most likely quite a bit louder than the Milltek.

It depends which Tubi model you go for of these 4 options.

    1) Tubi Style non-valve
    2) Tubi Style valved exhaust
    3) Tubi Style Rumore (louder) non-valve
    4) Tubi Style Rumore (louder) valved exhaust

Option 1 might be comparable to the Milltek non-res system. 3&4 I would say are definitely louder than the milltek.

I would go with the Milltek. I find the Stasis system to be a bit too loud for my liking. The Milltek gives you a great sound at a level that you can live with.

I have heard only the Milltek and it is a very good balance between daily usability and performance sound.

    All the best
