Exclamation Will I encounter any computer issues when I disconnect battery?

I'll soon be installing a Braille, lightweight race battery. Any problems or program issues to be encountered? TIA. This battery weighs 21 lbs. I tossed the little bugger into a Chevy Hi-perf. 350 and started her right up, fresh out of box. Seems to be a strong little beast. B3121.

It should reboot with no prob. Full reboots usually solve more probs rather than making them, as with most computers. You will of course need to update date & time, but that should be it.

Harrison..... whenever I had to disconnect a battery for service issues, I had a little device that had a 9 volt battery clip on it that plugged into the cig lighter. It would keep all the ECM settings, seat and radio memories, etc.. I think I got it from Summit but can't remember. It would be easy enough to make one if you really wanted to.

Could you share with us the reason on why you chose the B3121 (against the other Braille models)?

    Daily-use trade-off's?

    Thanks.

    Harry,
When I disconnected the battery on my A6 and A8L I lost all radio and key codes. I had to have the car towed to the dealer to put the radio and key codes back in. The next time I replaced the battery I had a portable charger connected to the cables until the new battery could be put in place. I lost nothing by doing this. I would check with your R8 specialist and ask the questions. It was truly a pain in the b*tt when my key did not work.

Re: Will I encounter any computer issues when I disconnect battery?

Harry, maybe best to listen to Mngolfer. My car is not exactly stock. We have disconnected the battery maybe 8-10 times, but many different smart people have also worked on its ECU programs, as well as almost everything else.

My key does work always, but then again maybe one engineer hacked it to always work?

Thumbs up Re: Will I encounter any computer issues when I disconnect battery?

Excellent advice MnGolfer. I 'shoulda thought of that ! I will connect a charger up to car to keep constant current...TOO easy. The reason I chose this battery ...The salesman recommended this one for the R8. I like that it has a two year warranty and is close to the size of a big Harley battery...thinking...thinking...lighten up the Harley some more.

Think it might depend on how long you disconnect for. When I did my steering wheel had it disconnected for only a couple minutes and had no problems

Thumbs up Re: Will I encounter any computer issues when I disconnect battery?

Coincidentally, I will be installing my stock steering wheel, and sending my PPI wheel in for inspection. This is when I WILL have to disconnect battery so as not to have an accidental air-bag explosion. I have yet to experience an air bag go off ! I hear it's a spooky BOOM !! (MasboomqueWOW)
