    Stasis ECU and exhaust upgrade on V10 Spyder?

    My dealer offered me cost for install and purchase of the Stasis ECU upgrade and exhaust. Not having heard the exhaust I am on the fence. I really like the idea of the AWE having quiet and loud with a push of the button, but the Akrapovic Ti exhaust with switchable valve also has me interested. I don't think I will ever get a chance to hear any of the 3 exhausts living in Minneapolis/St.Paul area.

    Main point is I want a near stock volume between 2-3k and loud above 3k or 3/4 throttle. I currently have a 997 Turbo with Miltek (quiet exhaust) and it drones like a mofo in the 2300-2500 RPM range which is exactly 65-70MPH where I spend all my time. Don't want this car to be like that. I can drive the drone machine any time I want to be remined of how bad an exhaust can sound. Nothing worse than a 911 Turbo that drones (except I am addicted to the 700/750 EVO kit).

    The ECU is a no brainer except they have to remove the ECU and send it to Stasis for the upgrade which means 5 days no car. Anyone with any thoughts for the exhaust? They are willing to install the Stasis exhaust about 1k less than retail with labor. Don't just want a good deal only also want a cool exotic sound to send the shiver up my spine (but only when necessary)!

    On the other hand had a cop downtown honk at me for downshifting. I think he felt I was going too fast and did a 2-1 rev matched downshift between buildings that sent out a pretty nice roar. Was going about 15MPH at the time. Guess the guy either was giving me the thumbs up or was pissed at the noise. Couldn't see his face.

    Re: Stasis ECU and exhaust upgrade on V10 Spyder?

    Firstly Re Ecu..

    I don't understand why they are saying they need to remove the ecu and ship them away as most upgrades on the V10 are simply a plug in under the dash,upload the software and drive away.

    Stasis make great products but the majority of us have gone for the APR remap which is great piece of software.

    Re exhaust..there are so many different combination's out there that its a very personal choice.

    I think though you are on the right track in having a switching device on your exhaust as it gives the best of both worlds...normal or loud.

    Speaking from my own experience the AWE is slightly louder in the lower rev ranges compared to the OEM so it is really drivable but if the mood suits it really intensifies over the 6500k under hard acceleration.

    You shouldn't find a drone problem with any V10 exhaust due to the design of the engine unlike the V8.

    Otis -

    What Authorized STaSIS Dealer are you working with? The dealership has the ability to perform the software upgrade in house, there is no need to remove the ECU's.

    Measurements of frequency and decibel levels are taken throughout the
    entire rpm range of the engine and fine tuned to achieve the proper sound quality. The
    STāSIS muffler design gives an exhaust note that is noticeably deeper and stronger at all
    throttle applications while maintaining a tone that is not intrusive or “droning” at normal
    everyday driving speeds.

    Since we don't have enough hard data to give you, the best you are going to get are anecdotes from owners. I'm most familiar with AWE, Tubi, and STaSIS. There are many other good options. Of those, only STaSIS does not have valving and all sound good. AWE (and Capristo) comes with a remote switching device, which you would have to buy separately for other valved systems. If you don't buy a switching control, the valved system will work like stock, opening automatically at WOT.

    My best guess for sound range from minimum idle/cruise to max WOT volume(1-5 scale):

    Stock:::1 - 3
    Tubi::::1.2 - 4
    AWE::::2 - 5
    Stasis::2 - 4

    None of these systems drone, as gazza1 said. The Tubi measures the same as stock with the valve open mod, so it is just a touch louder than a base stock system. At cruise speeds it is almost like stock.

    How would you rate GMG on that scale? The sound clips on the site sound great, and I loved my GMG Ti on the GT2.

    Chris,
    You found me here ha ha! Couldn't resist and did the ECU only. Good deal for 2k with factory warranty. Stasis ECU flash was about an hour. Definitely feel the difference, butt dyno is positive. I think 50hp is a pretty aggressive estimate, but I won't complain.

    Now just have to decide between tubi, AWE, or akrapovic exhaust.

    Yes the 427 is deafening. My father-in-law asked if it was going to be street legal or not. Still not on the road yet. Waiting for custom radiator hoses.

    I'm everywhere - and apparently so are you.

    Just looking around.. trying to decide between a G, FGT or an R8.

    Happened to see your post.

    Can't wait to see your FF done. Going to be awesome.

    Glad to hear the tune helped. That's one concern about a G or an R8: torque/performance. I guess a couple of turbo's would take care of any lingering performance hangover from the big V8's.

    Keep on enjoying the R.. see you at C&C.

    Chris

    Re: Stasis ECU and exhaust upgrade on V10 Spyder?

    Otis....what do you notice different on the ECU Flash? I just brought my Spyder in for service and was offered the same setup, but the dealer didnt recommend the exhaust due to the car being a spyder and it being too loud all the time.

    Anyways, any feedback on the ECU Flash would be great. I am on the fence, as I dont know if it will really make much of a difference without changing the exhaust too. Thoughts?
