    Talking Supercharged!

Not wanting to hi-jack anybody else's thread, I've started my own.

I picked up my V10 today complete with the Stasis supercharger. I limited the other changes to changing out the stock rotors to the Stasis ones.

No pictures as the ones I took today sucked. I'll have some posted tomorrow - not that we haven't all seen what it looks like

Some quick impressions from my drive back home:

    - traffic was TERRIBLE. Stop and go all the way from Burlingame to 3rd Avenue. I'm happy to report that the drive-ability in those conditions has not been compromised. The car is still easy to ease through traffic.

    - engine noise inside the car remains about the same. I do notice a slight whine above 4,000 but I really have to listen for it. I also noticed that as I was able to keep the revs lower (i.e. I could be in a higher gear for the same "oomph") the overall noise experience was a little lower.

    - I was able to "get on it" a couple of times once I passed 3rd Avenue. These were rolling squirts as I floored it into gaps. There's a noticeable increase in acceleration - as measured by my patent-pending "cheek test". Think Jeremy Clark when he was driving the Ariel Atom. OK, not that crazy but still noticeable. Now I have been driving an A6 for the last 2 weeks, so it's possible I've forgotten how it felt like before the installation.

I'm going for a strafe of Skyline tomorrow, which should give me a better feel.

    As promised, some photos:

As for impressions, 8,000 RPM sure comes up quickly!

Matt's (of Smoking Tire) review is spot on. This can't help but put a smile on your face.

I will have to change my driving habit a little. Bang on 4,000 RPM I get a loud whistle. 100 (or so) rpm in either direction and there's none.

    Love the license plate!

I'm guessing 4000 RPM is not really ever necessary in polite neighborhood driving, but it would happen alot when you're out on faster roads. How bad is it?

I was particularly interested in your choice to keep the stock exhaust, as I was considering that option. You said the sound inside the cabin was relatively unchanged. How about outside the car?

I'm also wondering how much money you saved by limiting the stasis modifications, (approximately). I personally wouldn't want the 20" wheels, springs, etc. either.

I'll bet you're going to have some fun. Enjoy. And post some in-car vids if you can.

    Bad enough to change revs.

It's the same most of the time. Louder on a cold start up (very throaty) but that goes away very quickly.

    10K?, 20k? Not really sure.

I didn't notice this on any of the SC cars I've driven. I wonder if there is an intake or exhaust leak somewhere?

Have you met Noah and his sc'd R8 V8 at Rector? He has had the same issue, amongst other issues with his SC and hasn't been able to fix it.

    Re: Supercharged!

Wait a minute...You did the supercharger and rotors only? and you don't know what you saved doing that? I can tell you that the whole challenge extreme package was 50K (not including labor install) before the most recent price increase. Now can you figure out what you saved?

No offense intended but I can't understand why you wouldn't do the full STaSIS modification. If not doing the full modification is for fear that the car will be outrageous...fear not.

I am blown away by how absolutely balanced the fully modded car is to drive. I have several modded cars and they always are a compromised car. Handling is a bit more challenging or the exhaust sound is a little too loud, etc. but not with this R8. It is perfectly balanced and stable. You will not believe that you are driving on a lowered car in 20" wheels. It's hard to believe that you don't feel more jarring...bottoming out occaisionally...nope.
