Audi Club Daytona event Dec. 2-4

The Ohio chapter of the Audi Club of America is running an HPDE event at the Daytona Speedway in Daytona Florida USA on Dec. 2 - 4. I attended this event in a previous year (note my avatar). It's truly an incredible experience doing that 31 degree pitched oval at up to 160 MPH. It's the Rolex 24 hour course, which is the "roval" (road course / oval) circuit where you go into the infield and then back on to portions of the oval.

It costs a lot to rent Daytona, and so it's a 3 day event that costs $1199 for students and $599 for instructors. There were several social events included, like dinners and individual photos and group photos and such.

Great video, thanks for the repost! I didn't realize the Roval includes almost the entire banked oval with the addition of the infield and the bus stop. This track must be incredibly hard on cars, especially tires!

Yes it is hard on tires. They (the event staff) get down on their hands and knees and look at all 4 of your tires each time before they let you out on the track.

I was surprised at how bumpy the banked oval was when you're at speed. But they did repave it not too long ago, so that surface is new. It may be better. We'll see!

I just got home from a weekend at Daytona. I took the Viper this time and I'm going back and taking the R8 in two weeks. The new pavement is very smooth and nice. They only repaved the banking though. The infield is still the same. It is hard on the right rear tire, but if you keep the pressures on the right side up a little higher, you'll be fine.

Was also there this past weekend. Since Laurie was in her Viper, WIBRAGAL and I were the only R8's.

The new paving is very smooth. Very few bumps. The infield is also relatively smooth. My tires were are in very good shape after 2 days of hard driving.

The December event is also being co-hosted in Florida by Hooked On Driving, a sponsor of the Audi Club of Florida. They are offering 2 and 3 day packages. The one day package is sold out. More information is available on their website.
