    Smile Stasis supercharger/twin turbo

    Hello,

I just purchased an R8 V10 Spyder and I would like to make it different from the other ones. I see them a lot so I would like to have a unique car.

Would it be possible to both supercharge and put twin turbo? If yes, how would it improve performance? If I would have to pick one of them which one would give the best return on investment?

    Thanks in advance.

Doing both would be massively complicated, hugely expensive; lead to multiple maintenance issues, (imho), and would be a poor ROI. If you want something mega powerful that is reliable, look into one of the UGR packages. You'll get over 1000 hp if you need that much and these cars seem to retain value well. Good luck with your choice.

    CNMSPA,

Congratulations on your new R8 V10 Spyder! Great choice!
If you are looking to set yourself apart & have a unique looking vehicle with great performance & reliability I would suggest taking a look at the
STaSIS "Challenge Extreme" package we offer for the R8 here:

Here is a recent testimonial from a client that just had this package installed.

cnmspa - welcome to the site.

No, both a supercharger and a turbo system are not something that you'd put on the vehicle together. There would be no advantage anyhow. They are two very different systems that are designed force the air/fuel mixture into the car's engine under pressure instead of letting the engine draw in the air/fuel mixture under vacuum (known as normally aspirated).

The turbo system uses the gasses coming out of the engine (exhaust) to spin a couple of turbine units (the turbos) to compress the incoming air/fuel mixture and force that into the engine through the throttle bodies. There is minimal loss, as there's no mechanical (other than the exhaust gasses) system being driven. The downside of a turbo system, no matter how good, is that there will be "turbo lag" - which is the time it takes the turbos to spool up and start producing pressure. Some systems are set up exceptionally well and produce an easy to drive, smooth delivering engine, but there will ALWAYS be some lag.

Superchargers are a mechanically driven (usually directly off the crankshaft) compressor. They have instant throttle response (no lag) because they are directly connected to the engine. Downside is that they do absorb about 100 hp that the turbos do not.

Having driven both the supercharged and twin turboed (used to own one) V8's, I'd definitely be looking at the supercharged system. Smoother, better power, less plumbing, and nowhere near the complicated exhaust system.
