    STaSIS Challenge Extreme

I am a STaSIS challenge Extreme customer. I modified my R8 V10 manual Spyder. Generally speaking satisfied with the conversion absent a horrible belt squeal on the supercharger. I am told that they are working on a fix. I am wondering if any other STaSIS customers have also experienced this annoying squeal on a cold start-up? Also, it may not be a bad idea for all of us to stay in touch to share information between ourselves about the STaSIS experience. Feel free to PM me your contact information and I will maintain a group email list for that purpose.

Yep. It's got pretty brutal as the weather has got colder. Last I heard (which was last week), updates to include the 7-rib belt should be going out to dealers "soon". Fortunately, doesn't seem to last more than a minute or two.

I'm #12. Didn't go for the full challenge treatment as I didn't want a louder exhaust or larger wheels.

I'm going for my second track day later this week. :-)

No squeal on the V8 installation - nearly 2 years on now and about 15,000 miles. All smiles. And btw - the Stasis exhaust note is glorious in case you missed that. Well worth the bucks .

8,000 miles since install on my V8 and about 3-4 squeals in that time. All were cold start up where I was giving it to much gas and only lasted a second. Since we have had pretty much no snow this winter I have been driving car on a weekly basis with cold temps and have had no squeals lately.

Yes we are aware of the squeal, there is nothing to worry about in terms of functionality but it is annoying. This will go away with the 7 rib pulley upgrade being done at no cost to all of our V10 supercharger customers. We sent out an update from our director of engineering Henry Hsu last Friday, if you did not receive the update please contact sales@stasisengineering.com and we will send it to you again.

We see the many raving responses, stories and photos and are thrilled to have delivered such an awesome product. Feel free to call on us at anytime with any questions you may have.

Was that "loud whistle" at 4000 rpm that Moggy had written about the same sound as the belt squeal? I'd be very interested to hear if the pulley upgrade does the trick.

I want the Challenge Extreme the way Moggy got it, but I want it to sound ok.

BTW, the R8 is such a gateway drug...I'm going out to Nevada this weekend to drive Radicals at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. When I bought the R8, I had no idea it would come to this... Wish me luck.

Definitely not. The squeal is loud, nasty and (fortunately) goes away very soon after the car warms up. The pulley doesn't need upgrading - the kit was installed with seven rib pulleys from the start. However, the seven rib belt they originally sourced wasn't up to the job, so they have been installing a 5-rib belt. This is the belt that squeals when cold.

The "loud" whistle isn't any louder than the rest of the engine/exhaust noise, it's just the nature of the noise changes. Also fortunately, the RPM range where the whistle is heard is very narrow and easily avoided during normal driving around.

Even with the stock exhaust, I was complemented on the noise as I howled down the front straight at Laguna seca yesterday (trip report coming!)

No kidding! Taking a break in March, but I've already lined up three track days in April (1 @ laguna and 2 @ Spring Mountain) and two in May (both @ Thunderhill)

    Re: STaSIS Challenge Extreme

Just an update to my original post. STaSIS as promised forwarded the new belt kit to Winner Audi in Wilmington, DE (who did my challenge extreme update in the first place) and the squeal is gone. Good deal when promises are kept. This car is fast fast fast. This is the only car that might beat my newly acquired 2013 GTR black edition. I'm thinking a day at the track is in order, two drivers and a drag strip should settle that question. Anyone have an opinion who comes out ahead? Clearly the disadvantage for the R8 is the manual transmission. I'm guessing that the GTR takes the STaSIS.
