    Faulty Sensor

Hi, Can anyone tell me what the procedure is to replace a faulty "oil level sensor"?

When I bought the car the service history stated that the local audi garage had cleared the fault code for the above, but advised that if the fault returned to replace the sensor. (dash is now lit up telling me to top oil up)

When I release the engine bay cover the warning light goes out for 30 miles or so but then returns, I presume this is the boot switch letting the ecu know that there may have been an oil top up?

Being in the motor trade ( light commercial van sales) I don't use main dealers, So I was looking to book this job in at one of the local workshop's that I use.

And can you tell me where the vag-com connection port is situated? Thanks

    Kind Regards Sean

Interesting about the light going out after stopping and opening the hatch/boot/cover/what ever we want to call it.
I'm guessing it has more to do with the car sitting for a moment and the oil settling in the system.

I'm useless on a recommendation of a shop, but can tell you that the VAG-COM port is straight down below the driver's side window a/c outlet just before you get to the carpet in the footwell. Run your hand down the bottom of the dash there and you'll find it. There's no cover, just an open port.

You don't mention whether or not you checked the oil level and verified the car does not need oil.
If you haven't, do so using the exact proceedure in the owner's manual.

Oil level is fine, Thats the first thing I checked, Looks like it will have to have a new oil sensor

Just need to know the procedure for fitting it

    Re: Faulty Sensor

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but did you have any joy with this?

My oil temp gauge stopped working yesterday. Turned the car off and on again, and got 'oil level sensor defective' warning light. Turned off and on again (yes.. I work in IT...!) and the message didn't re-appear.

I can live without the oil temp, but not oil-level - don't want to be running low on the gooey stuff!

No joy, I never got round to fitting a new oil level switch, My oil level light has only flashed twice in the last 6 weeks so its only intermittent now and again,

Think I will wait for the next service before I replace it

Mine's also changed to intermittent... some days it wont go off, other times it can go all week without flashing.

I too will probably wait and see...!

Done a bit of research and the part number for the oil sensor is the same as a Lamborghini gallardo... Part number 420907660

You can order one here.... http://www.eurospares.co.uk/searchRe...&TA=1&TB=44003

    Re: Faulty Sensor

Finally getting round to ordering one of these - error went quiet for a bit but has come back with a vengeance now!

Was quoted £160 for part only (approx £550 if memory serves for fitted!) from local main dealer Audi garage!

There's a fitting guide here for anyone who might want it in the future: http://elsaweb.spaghetticoder.org/do....05/31649760/3

Looks very simple, so I'll give it a go myself and attempt to save £460....!

so much to fit that? that's not even half an hour's worth of work. You can do it in a snap if you're OK with a screwdriver.
