Third Party Warranty (UK) - help!

    Hi all,

Im looking at a 4 year old V8 manual R8 that is out of warranty and so would want some cover, but i have no idea who to use.

Has anyone experienced the company 'Used Vehicle Warranty' as they gave me an excellent quote and one person on here mentioned their policy was equal to the Audi one but i find that too good to be true....

are there any other companies out there that people have had good experiences with?

are there any companies that cover clutches/weat and tear?

I know I'm about to claim on my third party warranty over a manifold replacement so I will let you know how happy the warranty is to pay out. I've never known any warranty to pay out for wear and tear on a clutch other then audi's own and they do that more under good will then anything.

Why does it want a manifold?

Not sure if it will yet, I've got some errors relating to it and the mechanics are going to let me know tomorrow how big of an issue it is.

Audi warranty will cover you the clutch + labor if you pay for the flywheel. So I had to pay £900 and audi covered the over £3,500! Result!. You wont be able to extend the Audi warranty now tho and its way 2 expensive. I used Used Vehicle Warranty and they covered my 3 year old V10 for 3 years for £1200! I have not had to claim yet but they are meant to be very good!. They have paid out for quite a few UK members here!

This will of course not cover wear and tear parts but these cars are very solid and only real expense I found on my V8 after doing 40,000 miles was the clutch. Managed to get 4 new disks and pads and have them fitted for just £900. If you know a good indy you can run an R8 on the cheap.

I have a "Used Vehicle Warranty" policy, 3 years top level cover from UVW for £1400 payable over 6 months. That included wear and tear and main dealer repairs and no excess.

As with many third party policies, it can feel a bit of a pain in the arse getting them to pay up. The policy does not cover seals, and I had a seal to on a power steering pump. Dealer said whole pump needs changing as seal isn't sold seperately. After arguing with the claims first line department, I eventually got them to agree to pay due the the Main Dealer Repairs part of the cover.

I chose the highest cover "Executive Plus Policy" with the addition of main dealer repairs and wear and tear. You can try to get a quote online, but due to the type of car it is you'll probably need to ring.

    Policy Wording
For cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3,500kg. This Policy applies to vehicles which are up to 5 years old and have covered less than 60,000 miles at the policy start date.

    Parts Covered
During the specified period all of the original manufacturer’s mechanical and electrical components of the vehicle are insured against breakdown except those listed under exclusions.
Full terms and conditions as set out in the policy document. If the wear and tear option is selected, covered parts will be
    insured for wear and tear.
    Casings
In the event of a covered item causing damage to a casing then the casing will form part of the maximum claim liability.
    Timing Belts
Providing there is proof that the manufacturer’s replacement recommendations have been complied with and they are free from oil contamination.

    Exclusions
Chassis, Bodywork, Trim, Glass, Road Wheel, batteries, exhaust systems, fuel tanks, brake shoes and pads, pressure plate, centre plate, release bearings,
    heater elements, wiring looms, injectors,
oil seals, satellite navigation, seized brake callipers, heater elements, centralised locking pumps, car telephone, air bags, keys, air conditioning recharging, In car entertainment, catalytic convertor, hardware e.g. bolts and fixings, pulleys/dampers, ALL serviceable and ancillary items.

Repairs carried out by end of first year, wheel bearing £450 and power steering pump £1,300. It'd be interesting to see what you get quoted, Mark got his policy for £1,200.

    Hope that helps.
