    Jack Points

Does anyone know where the jack points are for a R8 with a Hand trolley jack.

    Thanks in advance

Gazza1, Look in the owners manual. It shows them.

Be careful with the point in the middle of the car. The car can tip! That is a reason AOA removed the jack from the car (I was told).

A larger hand pump up jack, as you are planning to use gazza1, might be safer. Just be careful.

Use a piece of wood 1-2 inches thick, lay on ground in front of tire. Drive one wheel on top. NOW you can get ANY jack under either jack point. I prefer using the rear jack point. Raising there (CLEARLY marked with a circle with an X in it). Raising here lifts both wheels on that side safely. ALWAYS use a jackstand in case of a jack failure or malfunction, or even an EARTHQUAKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Jack Points

Yea, I had to drive on some wood to get the clearance for my floorjack. It is a pretty low jack, but not low enough for a stock R8. I had a 2x12x12 scrap laying around that worked great, but some 2x4s or whatever should do well. I lifted at the circle and it did lift both wheels, which worked great when I changed wheels. Once it was in the air, I used another piece of wood to jam under the tire to break the lugs loose.

Gazza, some floor jacks have a removable top which reveals a cylindrical shaft that fits perfectly into the jack lifting position .

What is the hight of the jack points? I am about to buy a jack and would like to get one that would work with the R8 also.

    Re: Jack Points

My floor jack (aluminum unit from Sears) fits right under the lip of the car w/o any issues.

I always take a piece of 1.25" diameter x about 2" long piece of aluminum and put it into the "jack pocket" in the middle of the car.

This setup works quite well, clears everything and doesn't have the tendency to try to tip over.

Another good thing to do is use a hocky puck on the lifting disk of the jack. It stops it from denting the metal underside.
