    Gas tank sensor malfunction?

    Hey Guys,
has anyone experienced this yet? I got it over the weekend, and was about to take it in when it started working again. Basically the needle reads empty, but thank god I always reset my trip odemeter.

I contact the service guy and he told me there is a bulletin on it and its a 6hr job. It sucks that it's currently working now, since I would have loved for them to get it fixed.

Maybe try keeping a camara handy, so you have proof, and can get it fixed at your convenience.

Really? Your dealer wants proof? All I have to do is call my dealer and tell them that it happened, even just once, and that I want it fixed and they'll run the TSB. I bet your dealer would do the same. For your gas tank sensor to do that once is enough of an alarm that you have the right to get it fixed, no questions asked.

Now, in my opinion, I wouldn't want it to get fixed unless I knew it was a recurring problem because if it takes 6 hours to do, that means that they need to rip stuff apart. And once you do that, it never goes back together as nicely as it came. So I'd avoid it unless I had to.

My R8 has just developed this problem, but it is permanent. I guess its the fuel tank sender unit? Has anyone had this fixed?

    re: Gas tank sensor malfunction?

My 2008 v8 had a fuel sensor problem it was stuck at 3/4 when filling it up and stayed there. I had the dealer check this out and they told me that the software was set to a 90L tank which I dont have... No idea why the software was set to 90L all of a sudden. Dealer set it back to correct value but did cost me ~300 euro's.

    re: Gas tank sensor malfunction?

My 2008 just displayed this warning: "Tank system malfunction, contact workshop". Gas gauge worked fine in morning with a nearly full tank. Started car after work and up pops the warning and the needle sits on empty. Research shows a NHSTA bulletin #10033214 and TSB 20-09-10 sounds like a failed sending unit inside the tank. Thankfully I have an extended warranty. Anyone have any advice/experience on this situation?

I got the same warning and took it to the dealer and they said one of the two sensors were faulty.
They ordered the parts and replaced it within 2 days!
