    Carbon Build-Up Intake and Valves

    Hey Guys,

Any solutions to the oil and carbon build-up on the 4.2 V8 FSI?
Pulled my manifold on the weekend and it was quite dirty and fouled!

Not good, need a fix for this FSI problem.

    Any ideas?

How many K's has your engine done?

When I saw inside my blown engine at 19k it was quite similar.

Don't know of any solution or preventative apart from pull down and clean.

Lots of stuff around on the RS4 having the same issues.

Porsche new gen DI engines appear to have the same problem as well.(pic attached)

Now my wait is over. Finally somebody has opened the engine and confirmed the problems with DFI engines (Direct Fuel Engines). Saved me the trouble.

There are many articles regarding DFI and carbon built-up in the intake manifold & intake valve areas. In fact all members are 'suffering' from this anomaly and power loss without knowing.

To keep a long story short, use BG44K. Guaranteed!!!

Go do that search on BG44K.

Chevron's patented PEA (Polyether Amine) is an ingredient in BG44K.

I've also treated my brother's Golf GTI with success.

You should ask the dealer's service department to clean the deposits from the intake. If the car is still under warranty, I would think this would be a covered repair.

Yup, that can be done too if the scope of the warranty covers it. You need to do it every 15000km (10000miles).

Stay with Mobil 1. That bit of detergent within Mobil 1 helps in delaying the process of build-up.

    Caveat ...

For engines that have already been 'substantially' affected, you need to take it in for cleaning. This is simple process without having to remove the engine manifold. From that point on, commercially available cleaners will only help delay that process. The only thing I'm doing to prevent a thick build-ups in the manifold & around valves by using BG44K and Mobil 1. But you must also really 'trash' the car to 'move' all that grime from that intake manifold from time to time.

Knew this problem before I bought the R8

Hmmm, I don't want to keep pulling off the manifold every 5,000KMS to do a clean!
Cant believe how bad it can get, especially on Porsche pic. I've only got 8000kms but it's a little mucky.

Maybe a custom oil breather system that vents to atmosphere? or Some kind of engine treatment that you can inject into Intake Manifold?

Does anyone know if the R8 5.2 FSI engines suffer from the same problems of carbon buildup as the 4.2 ???

    thanks

Same circumstances would apply to the V10.

If you want to have a much better understanding of FSI and carbon build ups I have attached a Patent from VW AG

    http://www.google.com/patents?id=fLI...page&q&f=false

bZ888 is on the right track with gases being expunged externally as opposed to recirculated back into the engine..

Re: Carbon Build-Up Intake and Valves

So what does this mean for current or potential R8 owners? Is this something that will eventually destroy the engine as it gets dirtier and dirtier? In short, how serious of a problem is this?

    Thanks,
