    Unhappy Clutch 'Judder'

R8 Experts!!! I need your help

The R-Tronic is not the smoothest transmission... yes. BUT I noticed my V10 rear end judder and vibrate (sometimes violently) when I launch the car from a standstill. It does not happen all the time. Seems to me the clutch is the problem here.

I thought I'd ask here before giving the dealer a chance to check it.

    ANY help appreciated.

I don't know how many miles you have on your new car yet, but I'd give it a bit more time if I were you. The clutch may need to bed in a little if it's really new, plus you'll be amazed at how smoothly your can manage the R-Tronic after a while. Or as Harrison said you may have been close to breaking it loose at the back end? I presume you've had all the relevant updates such as 24R4?

    Re: Clutch 'Judder'

    Its a 2011 with around 6000Km (around 3700 miles).

I'd assume the 24R4 is not relevant to 2011... moreover I think dealer already checked that before delivery.

It difficult to explain, but it feels like the clutch does not make full contact. Feels off balance.

I wonder how difficult it is for dealer to check the clutch plates. Three hour job?

Today I asked my dealer to please tell me how much clutch surface I have left. Mine is R-tronik. I hope there is more than just a visual exam of clutch plates. Mine is working perfectly. I thought someone mentioned that the computer might reveal some clutch info. Will know more tomorrow.

    Re: Clutch 'Judder'

Maybe the rear tyres broke traction??
BTW, Harrison, the Gearbox Controller will tell the Dealer how much clutch life is left.
Normally the reading is between 6000-8000units.

    Re: Clutch 'Judder'

I don't think its a traction issue. Normal driving. I tend to slowly apply gas to prevent this from happening... when it happens.

The problem is felt within the engine bay area, not the whole rear end.

I'll take it to workshop for a quick check.

    Re: Clutch 'Judder'

Good idea to check it out. If the clutch is warped, it can only get worse over time. I worry about that with mine (only 2k miles). Every once in a while I'm feeling a slight judder on launch, and it's not wheel spin, it's happening when I slowly drive away. To get the clutch fully engaged quickly, maybe the car wants to be launched a little harder.

    Talking Re: Clutch 'Judder'

bz888 was RIGHT. Dealer said clutch is rated on a 3,000 to 8,000 units of measurement, and that my clutch is at 5,969, meaning that I have used up close to 40 % of it. My mileage is near 26,000 miles. Launch control only tried ONCE !! I have learned to get some pretty quick starts with-out using it. I assume the numbers will drop as clutch gets used up. I'll ask when I pick my car up in a few minutes. Trip computer repair, exhaust tightened up, and gurgleing/percolating sound at idle remedied, and ... have my fingers crossed for my car to be even better than ever. Oh yeah NEW headlights,(spidey web formations on inside,as well as a REAL small German/Hungarian ? arachnid sealed in there, rolling around 'till it finally broke to peices) a so-called detail, and (I forget). C-YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whilst getting your problem sorted...you might ask for one of these. Demanding minds need to know. \"/
