    Clutch Rattle

Hi, I've just purchased my first R8 a week ago! Its a 2008 4.2V8 Manual which has covered just over 4000 miles. I've noticed that when the car is ticking over on the drive there is a rattling noise from the engine which dissapears when the clutch peddle is pressed. As soon as you release the cluch peddle it comes back. Is this something I should be worried about or is it normal on R8's? To me it sounds like something is dry when the clutch is engaged. If anyone could shed any light on this it would be a great help!
    Many thanks Ian.

Take it to the dealer. They are your best friend. They will do most anything to keep you happy and your car in perfect shape.

    Re: Clutch Rattle

I have noticed the same thing in my V10 spyder recently. Sounds like what would be clutch spring rattling and/or throwout bearing noise in other vehicles I have driven...

Will have the dealer check it out at the 5k service, but Iank have you found a resolution to your issue yet?

Could do throwout bearing noises, which isn't great if the bearing is going south, or gear lash which is fine. Cars with fairly light flywheels in neutral with the clutch out will rattle usually and when you depress the clutch it loads up and goes away. Usually won't make the noise when you are in a gear either. Tell the dealer and hopefully nothing major.

    Re: Clutch Rattle

I had a similar noise in my V8 coupe when I first had it in 2008 and it had done around 3000k.

It never made the noise driving and the box and clutch worked perfect.

I took it to the dealer and they replaced the gearbox under warranty no fuss and the noise never returned.

It could be something else but I would have it checked.

Thanks for the info, I do plan on investigating further at the next service which is coming due soon. I've managed to put nearly 5k on the spyder in 4 months of ownership, so much for being a fair weather-only car...

Have the same noise. At the 5000 mile service, Audi field mgr did audio file and sent to corporate. Their response it is half shaft end play and is normal. I don't believe that is what it is. I think it's clutch chatter. I've brought it to audi's attention, so any issues later it will be their problem hopefully.
