    ESP dash warning light

hey guys have had the ESP dash warning lights come on and car feels rough
so i switched off the ignition for 10 minutes and when restarted it went back to normal,
called my local Audi Dealer and they said that they can not dop anything unless the car has the fault showing when at the dealership...
is there no way that they can look at a logg and see past faults etc....

    regards

I had the same once with my M3 when almost brand new, it never repeated itself and the dealer found nothing.

So if there's indeed no fault code, wait for it to happen again...

If it turns on the MIL (check engine) light, then there should be a code stored in the logs. If its just the ESP (stability control) light, then I'm not sure if there would be anything in the logs unless MIL was also on. Sounds like it could just be a loose electron...?

If you put the key in the ignition and attempt to start the car does the ESP light come on and the engine turns over but doesnt start?

Then if you turn off the car again and try to start it again then it will start. Also you must be sure the battery is fully charged.

The issue in my case turned out to be that I had only recoded one of the 2 R8 engine ECU's during my recent cruise control retrofit.

This is what I had done:
    1) Coded Engine for cruise control
    2) Coded steering wheel for cruise control

    I should have:
    1) Coded engine for cruise control
    2) Coded steering wheel for cruise control
    3) Coded engine II for cruise control

In no particular order but all during the same VCDS session.

The ESP and mag ride suspension light may still be on in which case you will need to carry out the steering angle sensor calibration which is explained on the Ross-Tech website.

    Re: ESP dash warning light

    wow thanks for the information,
    as you explained,
when key goes in the car tries to turn but does not start, and ESP warning comes on along with the lights you mentioned,

however this morning i thought i would try again and it was back to normal,
i will deffo book it into to audi to look at, but currently light is off and apparently there is no way for them to check the fault

It would be very handy if you had VCDS then you could check for fault codes yourself rather than send it to Audi as it may be a DIY diagnosis.

Of course if you are under warranty then by all means take it to them as it will be free I imagine.

When they will find nothing in the OBD ask for a data logger to install. Then you can push a button on the logger everytime you'll get this warning light again and the logger will save all the data
