    Bluetooth Mic?

    Hi,

I hope someone can help me. When I'm on handsfree the other parties complain about how poor it is and they cant hear me.

I dont know where I should be talking into so my question is: where is the Bluetooth Mic (UK, V8) located and can you replace/upgrade?

    Thanking you in anticipation.

    Gaz

What type of phone are you using?

Some members have experienced issues when using the iPhone 3GS, have you tried another phone to see if that works any better then you will know it is the phone at fault and not the car.

iPhone 4. Previous Pioneer kit worked flawless with iPhone 4 so that's why I didnt suspect the phone.

By previous pioneer kit I presume you are saying you had a pioneer headunit in a previous vehicle and used that merrily with the iPhone 4 without issue?

I use a 3GS without issue. And by some miracle this year, it looks like Apple has fixed the phone from dropping in and out. I had serious bluetooth connectivity issues when in 2010. 2011, it's a different story - I have yet to have the BT ON - BT OFF switching while driving.

Gaz, I frequently get the same complaint. I think the microphone is by the lights controls in the centre of roof.

    Re: Bluetooth Mic?

As i mentioned in another thread my brand new V10 coupe now has the phone mics located in the both seatbelts similar to the Spyder.

On my V8 it was located on the roof and people said I sounded like I talking through a tin can with a piece of string. Not a good system at all.

Another thing the new coupe has which my previous car didn't is a full download of contacts in the directory off a Iphone 4

    Re: Bluetooth Mic?

    Jan,
There are some older threads on R8Talk complaining about BT voice quality which you can search if you want to read more. The short version:
Apparently there are two mounting locations for the mic in the overhead, and early on some UK cars had the mic mounted to point toward the left hand seat instead of the right. Your dealer can check this for you.
If the mic is not at fault, then I believe some owners have received satisfaction after Audi replaced the telephone antenna or other electronic modules (I don't remember which exactly), typically under warranty.
Since you don't mention the year of your car, it is a little difficult to know which issue might likely apply to your situation.

    Re: Bluetooth Mic?

Thanks for all your replies guys.

I have an '08 R8 but have replaced the RNS-E with the latest (high res screen, SDHC etc).

Can I assume therefore that the small grate in the roof lining is where the mic is located?

    PIC:

Do we know whether it can be replaced with another one (aftermarket)?

Thanks Desperado I will definitely get the dealer to look into the mic direction.
