    check engine light question

The check engine light came on in my 2011 5.2 R8 at about 1800 miles. I first thought it was my gas cap but adjusting this did not fix the problem. The car seemed to be running fine, but to be safe I took it back to the dealer where I was told "it misfired on a given date at a given rmp and this caused the engine to throw an error code" They then suggested I might have gotten some bad gas? Anyone else thinks this sounds funny?

Sounds plausible, have you considered getting VCDS so you can check these things yourself in future?

I had this, in fact there were two or three incidents when new. The first two I dashed to the dealer! Their respone was exemplary, but there really wasn't much they could do other than reassure me the engine was not in danger and clear the fault. (They replaced spark plugs once, but there was nothing wrong with the original ones and it did not cure the problem.)
After that I confirmed and cleared the fault myself with VAG-COM. Changed gas stations and problem went away. You can probably find my theads about it. This crops up every so often, and it seems to me it is always fairly new / low mileage cars. Perhaps a pattern is emerging, and it is a teething problem with new R8 FSI engines?

To conclude, now I'm pretty picky about where I purchase fuel!

I'm thinking gas also, since new only gas I have used is Shell 93 octane and never a CEL. Then a few weeks ago I went on my rally through Maine and into Canada and was not able to find any 93 or even decent gas, was all Irving or Petro Canada which I think was also Irving. Had check engine light come on a few times and at one point even went into limp mode. Good thing I brought my vag and scanned and found it was random misfires, cleared codes and went on my way. As soon as I got back and to my Shell 93, Also through in a couple cans of that Audi fuel system cleaner, problem has not repeated so not going to bother dealer with it. Good thing my Stasis tune is for 91, pretty sure if I still had APR 93 tune I would have had even bigger problems

I went through multiple misfire issues. If you use the search function you will see my history. After a few ecu flash updates and finally switching from my local shell station to exxon, no misfires for 6 months now.

Thx everyone. Gas may well be the problem. I have gotten every drop of gas 93 Octane from a local Shell dealer except for one instance and thinking back that was around the time the engine threw the code.
