Unhappy Can't open my engine cover...

    Hello,

Today i just get a new problem on my R8...i can't open my engine cover !

When i use the part which is close the driver door nothing happened.

I guess that the cable is broken near the engine trunk (is that the correct name ?) because all is ok inside the car (i turn off the plastics).

My question is : another solution is possible to open engine cover ? A drawing of that system is available ?

Thanks for helping (and sorry for my english, i'm french ).

S'il vous plaît pourriez-vous ajouter votre emplacement à votre profil? Désolé, je ne suis pas sûr d'une autre façon de l'ouvrir.

    Does that make sense?

I had the same problem with the engine compartment lid.

In my case, Audi replaced the defective solenoid which releases the latching mechanism of the engine compartment lid.

The engine compartment lid can be released manually by pulling the (yellow) cable located behind the seats, protruding from underneath the rear-shelf.

If you cannot find that manual release cable, it would mean that the cable was 'accidentally placed' INSIDE that rear-shelf. When you open that rear-shelf to gain access to the cable, make sure you leave the loop of that cable sticking-out from underneath that rear-shelf.

    Bonne Chance

Rit is exactly right. The loop is located near the corner of the shelf, behind the driver's seat (left side of the car).

If you need to pop the shelf, be very careful in doing so, it requires a bit of force, but not too much, and it needs to go straight up rather than be pulled up from one side only.

It's best you let your garage do it unless you need it opened urgently.

As far as I remember, it is a thin cable with a small ring attached to it, it may be yellow as mentioned here, and it can be hiding behind something.

It should definitely be close to the right hand corner of the picture you made. Just keep on poking in that area. When I finished work in that are a few months back I made sure the ring sticks out from under the cover. It was well hidden before that. Also check the manual for hints on where it may be.

If the add oil warning came up recently, and your distance to the dealer is short, then you shouldn't worry about it and just drive it there.

Unfortunetly no...it was same for speed limiter but my garage install it !

I will try to find that cable, it is on all cars (i guess it looks like fuel filler cable in engine bay)

What year is your car? My 2009 manual shows mine here:

Also I remember reading on some years ignition needs to be on for lid to open by switch
