    sooty film on rear bumper

    Hi All
I picked up an ex demonstrator V10 spyder last Thursday, the car is white, but I am concerned with the amount of black soot, or exhaust polution on the rear bumper.
Is this normal on a car thats 3 months old and has only covered 2800 miles. Filled the car with super unleaded from a local supermarket.
Its as if the car is running very rich?

Thanks, any advise would help, before I take her back to the main dealer

    Martin

Dust, soot, road debris, etc. Yes, the back of a white R8 gets dirty very fast.

I don't know what you mean by thick but if you don't clean the exhaust tips when you wash your car, they become black.

I had a white Porsche and the back end was the first area to show dust and road dirt. Don't notice it much on my silver.

Yep, white shows a lot of dirt on back end. I just keep a microfiber towel and some Meguiars quick detail handy and wipe it down before every drive (before leaving house).

Sans a picture sounds pretty normal to me.

How about you clean the car then take a picture if the level of soot reaches the same level then share the picture with us.

We can then compare versus our own experiences.

Certainly, the chrome exhaust trim needs to be cleaned with a little chrome polish to keep it from getting black. If you're getting black soot that sticks to the rear bumper cover and doesn't wash off, then there may be something wrong - also some wax helps to keep the dirt from sticking as much.

My car is black but the rear gets dirty first, in fact, it gets so grimy that it needs to be properly washed, and I don't mean pressure washer washed, but seriously cleaned, after just a few drives.

If I don't properly clean in for a month, the amount of tar or whatever it is, is just incredible, and is not too easy to get rid of.

Thanks for your comments, it sounds like a common problem. Will take some photos and post, my local dealer said he will check the car tomorrow. My son tells me that if you buy super unleaded, from a garage that does not sell a great deal of it, the petrol can go off, and cause this too happen more than usual.
    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys
    Martin
