Those are the plastic caps that go over the actual lug nuts. They're messed up because whoever took your wheels off last had a difficult time getting the caps to come off prior to loosening the nuts. They probably tried all sorts of things to get them off, when there's a pin that's stored in the trunk designed specifically to pull off the caps.
Audi techs hate those pins though, and use a set of plastic tongs that have very thin blades with an protruding section at the tips that makes it much easier to pull the caps off.
I should also mention that if you want to replace them with new ones, your dealership sells them for about $2 each. There's a special round one that goes over the wheel lock, as well.

My '08 came with the tongs type plastic tool... that works just fine. In the toolkit in the trunk.

The same machinist that made the jack pucks I was selling also makes Titanium lugbolts. They're kinda spendy, but **** they look really spiffy and you can ditch those plastic covers.
I keep those plastic caps in a bag at the garage. The nuts are almost invisible deep inside the rim.
could also be possible that they messed them up when putting them back on.. on my there is one tirelock instead of an "normal" nut, and the caps are in 2 different designs. so they maybe tried to push them because they don't notice and killed it =/
