what makes my battery discharged after 3 days ?

Having left my key in the barrel (all switched off) during 3,5 days drained the battery ..?! Impossible to start the car again this morning. Fortunately just enough energy to permit opening the hood and access the battery compartment for recharge. What does the car use which consumes so much energy while the key is left in the barrel ? Or is my battery dead after one year ? Your thoughts ?

Reddy. I don't think that is it.

DominicR8, some electronics probably do not go completely off if the key is still in place. This can easily be tested with an ampere meter. To see what the current draw is when the key is still in place, I suspect it's more than if the key is totally out.

You can also open the bonnet if the battery is dead. There is a pull cord near the top right corner of the fuse box. The fuse box that's located behind the passenger area's foot resting area.

A 1 year old battery is not the cause.

do u have any aftermarket installations, such as alarm, radar detectors, laser jammer, strobe lights or police scanner??..that would drain the battery dead in no time, happened to me a couple of times...got the second battery after 2 years car life

A sane install of any such devices makes sure all devices have no power when ignition is off.

Why on Earth would you leave the key in the ignition for three days anyway?

Just opening the door wakes up half the stuff in the car. If you are in a completely quiet garage, even without the key in the ignition, I can hear the hiss of the audio system's amps go on when the car is just sitting there 'off' it takes a while for it to go back to sleep. Leaving the key in the ignition probably leaves all that stuff on, and won't let it go back to sleep.

I use a CTek battery tender connected when the vehicle is not in use. I also have the CTek battery indicator which shows me at-a-glance with an amber or red LED if it needs charging or a green LED if it's adequately charged.
