Hey guys..
Just a quick question, how often do you usually top up your engine oil? Do you get the "Top up max 1 litre" msg often? About every 1000 miles?

Hey guys..

It seems to depend on the car and how it was broken in. Most cars seem to want a litre/quart every 3500 - 5000 miles.
It seems that those of us that have ignored the Audi break in schedule tend to have less oil use. I'm presently at 3400 miles and six weeks of ownership, including about 450 miles of hard track running, and it's not used a drop of oil yet. My break in procedure has been to let the oil warm up to operating temp and then drive it hard when desired.

My car requires a top up nearly every 1000kms too. Could it be an issue with older r8's. Mine is an 09. Did not break the car in as per manual just drove mellow for the first 2000kms but did rev to 8000rpm at least 20 times during that period. Maby has to do with the hot climate here. Just a guess.

I'm having the same problem as ktdre, after 1400-1800 (km) I have to top up oil. Fortunately I record all my oil top ups and petrol fills whenever I fill the car up.
So for 10,000km driven, I have topped it up 6 times.

1L per 1000KM sounds very high. So far I put 2L into my 09 V10 in over 11,000 KM
The very high ambient temperatures where you guys live might make a difference as well.
My V10 had it's first 1L top up at 1,600 miles.

I am at 4200Km's on my few weeks old V10 coupe and have driven it hard from day one. Pedal to the metal.
Have not used a drop.
Like Kfab..I just let it get nice and warm before pushing the right pedal.
In comparison my very first V8 which I ran in by the book I would top up regularly every 2000k's.
The second V8 I had..I broke every Audi run in rule and never consumed a drop between service.

That could be correct..but coincidentally I went on the track yesterday and checked the stick before hand along with all the other things you do
Next to nothing.![]()
Should have checked after?.
OFF TOPIC.I reported that when I took my previous V10 spyder out on the track I had very high oil temps(close to red line).
The coupe was a treat sticking just above the 1/2 way mark all day.
Different oil or better dissipation of heat in the engine bay?
