VIN / Chassis number?

Hi guys

Am in the process of registering my car in Germany and they require confirmation of the VIN before they will complete the paperwork.

The labels on the passenger side doorframe and behind the windscreen are insufficient; they need the VIN that is physically on the chassis itself.

In my GT-R this was on one of the supporting engine struts.

I'm hearing through my german dealer (who don't seem too sure themselves) that on the R8 it is underneath the carpet of the driver's seat.

Can anyone confirm this please? And if that is the case, can I easily get to it or would I need to remove both the carpet and the seat? Which seems crazy.

Andy, I'm not aware of any "different" VIN than the one you can see through the windscreen on the driver's side.

The same number can be found if you remove the passenger's foot carpet, open the hatch to the fuse box. You'll find a white sticker with a lot of letters and numbers on it, the VIN is also clearly shown there.

You should have your VIN also written clearly somewhere in your car documents.

My April 2011 Vin sticker is located on the front inside pillar of the driver side door frame and is visible when you open the door.

Vin's start with WUA..

The location of the sticker though might vary country to country?

Apparently in addition to the stickers all vehicles are "stamped" with the VIN somewhere on the chassis itself.

And this is what they require.

Am actually at the dealers tomorrow so will literally have them take it apart if need be because without that I cannot get it registered here

I thought the VIN is the same in all locations on the vehicle.

Just had another look and my vin is also stamped on a metal badge which is visible on the passenger side at the bottom of the windscreen.

IIRC it's etched on the left(?) side upper frame member in the engine compartment, under the large side trim piece. There are others on the frame as well, I've seen several but don't recall where they are.

EDIT: I checked the frame member I mentioned, and I was mistaken. It does not have a VIN.

When I went through registration in Sweden they found the chassinumber behind the right seat under the rug. There was a small hole in the mat that could be lifted. I had to pull the seat to the front to get to it.

Quote from the CEC papers:
"hinter dem rechten Sitz in das Bodenblech eingepragt *eingeschlagen *geritzt."
