1st to 2nd gear change issue

Hi, I've had my R8 V8 manual for about 5 months, I noticed from day one that it doesn't seem to like changing from 1st to 2nd, its seems to be a bit stiff and awkward as you move the stick. It seems to be better when its warm, but not perfect.

Is this a common problem ? the cars is 4 years old, mint 19k miles. still under extended Audi warranty etc.

Any advice is greatly appreciated !

This doesn't sound normal to me. I've read in other posts that Audi needs to adjust the cables from time to time. Sounds like a service check is in order.

It feels like the gears are waiting an extra moment to mesh, but when they do mesh, it's an extremely solid and precise feeling (more solid and mechanical-feeling than other gears). Right?

I've experienced this too, on both manual V8's I've driven, including it getting better once warmed up.

I'd say it's normal. Drive and enjoy.

Absolutely correct..it is part of every service I have had on my R8's.

The cable adjusters are located on the gearbox and access is simple.

If you have the right tech it turns a notchy or even a good box into a sublime shift.

I had same issue and had the shifting mechanism changed. Works well now.

I have had the same problem. Had my cables replaced twice already under warranty. There definitely is some design flaw.. Take it to the dealer.

Car is at dealer now. The tech thinks the shift forks need replacing. He is going to try and get me a new gearbox from Audi. The cables were swapped twice and they did not remedy the problem. According to the tech the cables are not adjustable. They fit in one way only.
