V10 Needs Oil- Advice Please

Guys,

Need some quick help, just tested the oil levels, and its at the "fill it" mark. what oil do I need. (I'm in the UK so international brands pls) and what's the best way of filling it. Pour it straight and start the engine leaving it to run for a while ? Also how many containers I need?

Is it bad for the car to drive it at "fill it" level for say 20 miles?

Please add your location to your profile, as it can help at times...

Add one quart/litre of oil if it's asking for oil on the dash and/or the low level of the dip stick.

No need to start the engine - you're filling a remote tank, not the crank case (if I am correct in my thinking).

You can drive it 20 miles no worries. It will tell you when it needs oil, so don't worry.

with appr. 14 qts. capacity (appr. 11.5 recoverable), being down a quart is no emergency; when you're in the "add" zone, I'd put in a quart as soon as you reasonably can....for instance, if you have to drive 25-30 miles to get the correct oil, I'd say "no big deal." But you should get in the habit of carrying at least a quart, because you can't always find what your R8 needs.

What's the process? Simply open the cap and pour the oil? Anything I need to be aware of?

Waiting for the computer to request a litre is the easy way. Read the manual for the proper, longer, drawn out, method for checking in between alerts. In the beginning , I waited for the computer. I didn't even find the dipstick until after a few months of ownership!! I was truly a dummy newbie, with only this forum and the manual to help me.(I still am a dummy, just not a newbie)
